[The feed opens to a blurry image of poorly jostled movements. Sounds of rattling scraping against the speaker of the shellphone indicates an attempt to prop it against something solid. Finally, after a few more moments (got to get the angle just right!) the image clears, revealing not one- but two faces on the other side of the screen.

Clive and Jill, at your service!]

Good day, everyone. [Clive begins, his back straight and voice almost mirroring an authoritative tone. However, despite how rigid he looks, the man was smiling. His scarred face wrinkled with creases of a genuine gleam as he looks to Jill before finally returning to address the camera.] We thought it proper to give a formal announcement…

[ He’s not the only one who’s smiling. Jill is too, though much less rigid in her posture. Her shoulders are relaxed, looking as if someone has taken a large load off of them for one and together the pair make a picture of two giddy schoolkids up to no good. She reaches out for his hand, taking it into hers, and clasping it tightly before addressing the camera as well. The measure of support they give one another is obvious and what they have to say shouldn’t come as much of a surprise if given a little thought to how much they mean to each other.. ]

Not only proper, but more… efficient in this manner. Rather than leave it to the winds to carry the message, we want to tell all that we know at once.

[ She glances back over at Clive with expectant eyes, wondering if she should say it or if he should. But on second thought, she shakes her head and decides not to force the man of few words to come up with the entire message. ]

We would like to officially announce our betrothment.

[ Now that the main message is out there for all and sundry, she gives the floor back to Clive. ]

Yes. [Clive listens and nods along with a fondness on his face to that of a beggar receiving an abundance of gil. He holds Jill’s hand tightly in return, giving a look of a man clearly in love, before eventually offering the camera a half glance.]

Thank you for the kindness you have shown Jill and I. We pray that you will continue to support us as we take our next steps— [Annnd just like that his gaze leaves the camera completely and back onto Jill, dripping his head slightly.] —together.

Yes… Together.

[ Because that’s how they always do things, isn’t it? That much is certain with how she shifts to face him fully, to take in the man she loves with every bit of her soul. Apologies to anyone having to suffer through this. The shellphone and whoever is watching this broadcast no longer exist in her world; just the two of them remain at this moment. A moment more than well earned in two lives that were once full of nothing but strife and pain.]

[Yeah, but when their own pace ends up being a total of six years to get to this point... Some people just don't want the molasses speed to outlive them.]

Just a bit? Well, I guess I can try and bring a little more enthusiasm~

So, Clive says he's known you since you were kids. Has he always been this smouldering?

Smouldering?

[Jill furrows her brows. She knows what the word means, but the context in which Darin is using it eludes her.]

In what manner do you mean?

Oh you know. Quiet voice burning with the intensity of a sun? Dark eyes that hold back the pain of the world?

That sort of thing.

[Oh, boy, does she know. Those are just a few of the things that cause the flutterings in her belly. Even right now, as Darin reminds her of Clive's physical attributes. Whew.]

Ah... well, yes and no. His Duchy responsibilities meant he would need to have more than a modicum of seriousness about him. Then with other things happening to him...

[Jill presses her lips together in motion that says describing those things is a conversation killer.]

We can just say that he has become a man who may not speak much, but when he does, he means what he says and says what he means.

[Listen, Darin gets it. And besides, if Clive did want to talk about it, he's sure he'd do it when he was ready. He holds up a placating hand. He won't pry.]

Listen, earnestness and honesty are in short supply. I'll forever respect an honest person over a strong one. And it sounds like you're the same.

Too much so, especially on our star. But thankfully things are changing, even if slowly, and so are we as a people.

I do, indeed. Knowing where I stand without him having to say as much means more than I can ever say. I owe him so much and yet it feels words fail me.

Admittedly, I tend to need constant reminders. I probably get annoying really fast. I'm kinda envious of you guys...!

I doubt that. He tends to need reminders himself, but I know that it's difficult sometimes to believe just words. That's when actions come into play so I not only tell him, I show him.

Hopefully, there's someone to do the same for you?

[Darin scratches his cheek bashfully.]

Th-There's someone who I want to be better about being honest with. I guess.

For him, it was fighting by his side. Giving my all in defense of him. Staying by his side even at the most trying of times, in times where I didn't necessarily agree with his methods of doing things.

[Because Founder knows it wasn't all rainbows and snow daises between them during the last few years.]

Honest how? Do you have romantic feelings for them?

Ro-Romantic?!

[Gods above, why did this have to be video?! Darin practically drops his shellphone so there's a minute of blurred video as he actively juggles the damn thing.]

N-No! No, not romantic! Gods, no! I've just...never been good about being honest about...you know. Who I am?? As a person? And she's—they've really kinda inspired me to be better so.

Apologies, I didn't mean to upset you. I just was curious as to where your interests lie so I could advise you properly.

[Simmer down, Darin, lest she start assuming you do have romantic feelings for this person.]

What is preventing you from telling them who are you?

[Asking Darin to 'simmer down' is like asking the sun to cool off.]

[He lets out a small, exasperated huff. Not at Jill. At his own inability to talk about his circumstances.]

...Fear. Mostly. I don't think very highly of myself. I know a little bit about the world you guys come from so...I think you guys can understand.

On my world, hair like mine tends to mean a person is descended from demonkin or beastkin. We're...not viewed very favorably.

I can understand that. Truly, I do.

[After all, it wasn't too long ago when she considered herself nothing but a monster.

Her eyes glide upwards to take in what little she can see of his hair on screen, assuming it's the color he's talking about and not so much the style.]

If there's one thing I've learned in the last few years is that you have to give people grace. And here, especially so. If they aren't from your world, there is less of a chance of them holding those preconceived notions against you. You may think of yourself one way, but they're thinking of you in another.

Do they not get the opportunity to form their opinion of you?

W-Well...yeah. Of course.

I guess...I'm just so used to those opinions being bad ones. Back home, I'd gotten so used to people calling me "cursed" or "monster" that it just sorta rolled off my back.

[Not entirely. Some of those sentiments found their way in through the cracks. Eroded him.]

Here...I guess I'm more afraid of proving those old sentiments right. She...People see me for more here. And I don't want to let anyone down.

You say you've gotten used to it, but yet, it still concerns you enough to follow you here.

[Sorry, not sorry, Darin, but she's going to call you out. Jill isn't one for lying to people's faces. Unless necessary, anyway.]

Then continue on as you have been doing here. They've already formed their thoughts on who you are and they—she hasn't turned aside yet, has she? Your actions, whatever they are, have been speaking for you. You just didn't notice that.

[Honestly, if there's one thing Darin prefers it's plain honesty. He'd rather someone call him out to his face than delicately walk on eggshells around him.]

[So, emboldened by Jill's words, he replies in kind.]

What if I hurt her?

How so?

[A simple question to answer his question. Solely so she knows what kind of worries she's working with here.]

[Darin scoffs as if to laugh at how many ways it's possible for him to hurt someone.]

I...have abilities. Powers I've specifically never trained because I hated how everyone was so afraid of me. If I showed them what I could really do...I'd be hunted down or...turned into a weapon.

Recently, I decided that it was time I start to learn what I really can do. Train myself. But...I'm still scared. I'm scared of becoming something she'll hate or worse...

Something she'll have to stop.

[There's a pause before he seems to come out of his own thoughts.]

A-Ah, I'm...I'm sorry. I should be congratulating you both not bring the whole damn mood down!

Then tell her. Tell her this as easily as you told me. Tell her your fears and your worries. That you're training to not only learn what you can do, but how to control it as well. You must be honest with her in order to give her the chance to form her own opinion of you. Everybody has that right.

And if it turns out that she has to stop you, don't you want her to have a fighting chance at doing so?

[As for that last part of his, she'll just shake her head. They're already thick into the conversation about him. There's no going back.]

[Darin laughs softly because...well, he knows Jill is right.]

I think she already has an opinion of me. I'm just...scared of proving her wrong. Scared that the monster inside of me will wind up disappointing her.

Being honest really is the scariest thing in the world, isn't it?

It is, but it's also the most honorable thing. To truly be honest with someone else, it means you respect them, that you care for them, and that even if their opinion changes, you thought enough of them to bring them the truth.

I've had to tell Clive things he possibly didn't care to hear, but I told him regardless. He didn't think any less of me.

Yeah, that...that sounds like her alright.

[Gods he still remembers that night weeks ago. She really let him have it and boy did he deserve it. He's still ashamed of how he acted.]
