[The camera feed opens up to stunning view of an island. The cameraperson is standing near a grotto into which a relatively short waterfall feeds, creating a glittering mist over the pond. It pans, in a hand too excited to hold it entirely steady, over the lush greenery, showing a gently rolling hill that flattens out into a plain. Mehrak can be seen zipping about, scanning the area and placing markers about the island, though what they'll become is anyone's guess.]

Look at this.

[Kaveh's voice is shaking with pure unadulterated glee and maybe a little bit of tears, but he turns the camera until he finds his target--Alhaitham, a distance away, who seems to be communicating something to Mehrak.]

This ridiculous man bought me an island.

[Has your spouse bought you a whole-ass island? no? then kaveh's got the superior husband.]

[Alhaitham, who has just finished relaying his instructions to Mehrak, turns over to Kaveh and snorts when he sees his husband frolic about with his shellphone. It's really not too hard to figure out what he's doing there.

He'd open his mouth to ask a teasing question, but Kaveh is rather far away right now to be heard easily, so he'll just stand here and let his amusement do all the talking once Kaveh actually comes over.]

[What's that? Get your husband to run at you full speed to tackle you into the grass with sheer glee? CAN DO.]</small?

Congrats.

(Maybe now they'll both go spend all their time on the stupid private island, now.)

[It's kind of impossible to ignore the way Kaveh is barrelling right at him, and so all Alhaitham can do is to spread out his arms to catch his husband when he crashes in, the force of it combined with Kaveh's weight more than enough to have Alhaitham tumbling down onto the grass. Of course, seeing as how Kaveh is the cause of this, its only natural that he drags Kaveh down with him.]

You're going to wear yourself out even before we can truly celebrate. [He huffs out, teasing, but there's no hiding the warmth that gleams in his eyes and the pride glowing on his face. Obviously he's going to take some pride in seeing how much joy he's given Kaveh with this gift. His husband's happiness has always been his own, too.]

[It's unlikely, Sidestep, Kaveh's not giving up that cafe.]

Do you doubt my stamina, after all this time?

[Kaveh laughs, not even pretending to be irritated, radiant and happy. An island...an island to design a home on freely...something tailor made to the two of them. And this place is beautiful. he already has ideas for how to use that grotto and waterfall.]

[Alhaitham doesn't respond immediately, instead stretching it out first with a thoughtful hum for a bit before moving on to speak.]

I suppose that depends if I'm allowed to take those words as permission.

[The fondness in his own expression is very much there, but there's a certain gleam in his eye that suggests of something More.]

What, right here?

[Kaveh considers this with a gleam in his own eyes, deeply contemplating.]

Let me finish surveying first before you throw my back out, Haitham.

[That...sounds like a promise, doesn't it.]

It's not like we have to worry about anyone else.

[Which of course is part of the reason why Alhaitham made the effort to do this in the first place. A whole island to themselves means all the privacy they could ever ask for.

But with that being said, he doesn't get as pushy as he might have been in other scenarios, only busying himself with running a hand up and down his husband's back while the other is busy contemplating. When Kaveh does eventually answer, Alhaitham only takes a second to consider the words before he lets out an agreeing hum.]

Take as long as you need. [He says, feeling exceptionally giving. And if that wasn't enough, he uses his same hand to go to grab onto one of Kaveh's own, bringing it up so that he can plant a kiss to the back of it, smiling afterwards.]

I won't keep you waiting too long.

[Kaveh smiles, a faint flush on his cheeks, but he'll pull himself to his feet and Alhaitham up with him, before turning.]

Mehrak can handle this area, so let's see what's up at the top of the hill.

[Alhaitham lets Kaveh help him up onto his feet, and once they're both no longer horizontal he gives their surroundings a look. He's familiar with the sights, of course, having first visited this place himself among many other islands to find the one suitable for both of their needs—and he'd known, from the very moment he laid eyes on this particular one, that this would be the one which Kaveh would love the most.

He turns his attention back to Kaveh when the architect speaks, nodding in agreement to the suggestion. He'd gone up there too, of course, when he was first surveying this place, but it has been a while, so maybe something might have changed in the time since.

Decision made, Alhaitham waits for Kaveh to go first before moving himself, though he soon comes to fall in step with his husband, catching his hand once more to entwine their fingers together.]

[Kaveh is more than happy to hold hands, heading up towards the slope...it's a little steep, but nothing a son of Sumeru can't handle. He does pause now and then to take pictures with his shellphone, and sometimes pauses, to look at the view.]

Ahhh, maybe I should come back in the morning...I want to see how the sun rises here before I start drawing...

A whole island? That's quite the spousal gift.

[Is she jealous? No. She hasn't even had her wedding yet!]

Do you have any plans for it yet or am I asking that too soon?

Jill, I have too many ideas.

[He laughs, downright giggles. He is practically sparkling with joy.]

I want to utilize that waterfall, I think, but I want to see how the light falls with the sunrise and sunsets...the island itself is beautiful, I should work with that beauty, not in contradiction to it.

You know, you might want to take your time with this. The island isn't going anywhere.

[She's pretty sure Alhaitham didn't buy the place so Kaveh can stay up all night and day decorating it.]

Oh, don't mistake my excitement for doing a rushed job. It's just...

[Kaveh pauses, searching for the words to explain.] Inspiration like this...it feels a little like I'm aflame. I can't help myself.

[Oh, now she's jealous. No, more like a little envious. What does it feel like to have that passion of inspiration? She can't say she's ever had that moment; she's still trying to find her thing in this world after years of being told what to do and when to do it. That thing is seemingly more difficult to come by than she expected.]

Has it been a long time since you've felt this way?

Yes and no. There are things that inspire me in the day to day--sunlight on the water, a bolt of lighting, even the shape of a fallen leaf. But that's not nearly so strong as this.

I don't think I've felt this powerfully about something since the Palace of Alcazarzaray...if I'm honest, I was starting to worry that I wouldn't again.

[Kaveh's fire and passion are not a thing most can strive for. maybe they shouldn't, given what it's cost him. But a feeling like this...he wouldn't trade it for anything.]

The Palace of Alcazarzaray? What's that?

Ah! Right, I hadn't mentioned it--My magnum opus.

[Give him a minute, he's waving mehrak over.]

I put...everything I had into the design of the Palace. I wish I had some proper photos of it, but...

[he gets his sketchbook from Mehrak and hands her his phone to record for him, before he flips through to a particular sketch.

Though calling it a sketch is kind of like calling Rembrandt's paintings a "doodle". The palace he's drawn sits nestled within nature, the elegant curved domes mirroring a bud just about to flower, and the palatial gardens spilling over and blending into the natural foliage.]

[Holding hands is really par of the course between them at this point, though it doesn't stop how novel it still feels for Alhaitham, even after all this time. Such a simple, often overlooked thing, and yet...

He keeps their hands tangled together as they make their way up to the top, clearly content even with the way Kaveh keeps stopping to look around. There's nothing about that for him to be annoyed about, especially when its because of Kaveh being so obviously excited. He's always enjoyed seeing his senior being so completely in his element.]

You're free to come here whenever you want. [He says after Kaveh's musing to himself.] That's typically one of the benefits of being the owner of this place.

[Yeah so he's being a little sassy here, but you know. He just can't help it.]

Oh? You'll actually let me up for it? How gracious.

[Kaveh snorts a bit, but he falls quiet, leaning into Alhaitham as he looks out over the view. He has so many ideas, he can hardly wait to put them to work...]

...It's not the same as going home. But I'll make it feel as close as I can.

[Alhaitham lets out a huff, but doesn't retaliate for once. Instead he lets go of the other's hand in order to slide his arm around the back, pulling Kaveh flush against his side so that they can feel the warmth of each other as Kaveh leans into him.]

... [He's quiet for a while as he looks at the view himself, Kaveh's promise still echoing in the air. There's no denying the fact that one of the other reasons he'd picked this place was because all the greenery reminded him of Sumeru, and the truth is that he misses it just as much as Kaveh. His husband's presence makes being here far more bearable... but they can both agree that it's still not the same as being home.]

...Mmn. [He finally breaks his silence with a hum, giving Kaveh's hip a squeeze as he exhales and turns, looking at Kaveh—his husband, his mirror, his better half—with all the love and affection he's ever felt in that one, single moment.] I know you will.

[Because, in spite of that, despite everything... home may be back in Teyvat, in Sumeru, in the city where his house is, but it is also here, with Kaveh, in this place where they did not choose to come. But they have chosen each other, and perhaps in the end that is what matters the most.]
