TEXTS FROM LAST NIGHT'S VOYAGE

We're pretty sure someone has hacked the shellphone network again. Somehow, everyone's random text messages are being sent to other random shellphones without anyone’s permission. Worse yet, these messages seem to be random texts that anyone would have sent last night. Texts from last night...

No one has been able to figure out how to correct the network just yet, so ... Try not to get too upset if you see your messages being responded to by someone else! We’re looking into it.

In the meantime, maybe chat with someone new? There’s no harm in making a few new wayfaring friends along the way.

With everything going on. Um. I just figured. I'm not sure how many other doctors are around, exactly, but. It'd be good if we could maybe teach some people. At least some basics. To help in emergencies and stuff. We can't be everywhere at once. So. If anyone wants to learn some basics of medicine, what to do in emergencies. I don't have healing abilities, magic or anything, but. I know the right herbs and medicines and stuff. And I'm learning about the ones here, too. Trying to. So if anyone gets sick, I know what it might be and how to treat them, even if it isn't something I'm familiar with back home.

Subject: Strange tidings...
Warnings: This pertains to the current Player Plot that is happening now. Full details can be found there.

I come bearing a fair warning.

You may have noticed strange creatures lingering around the Leviathans, lately. They resemble misshapen stars ... almost like sea urchins or barnacles, were they to be found upon the land. Black and red in colour, each bears a single eye that I assume it uses to track its prey.

Please be careful should you encounter one of these creatures. By all means, do not approach them, nor attempt to engage with them.

These small beasts appear capable of latching onto anyone, using their hosts as a form of prey? I’ve noticed the creatures induce a sort of paralyzing effect. They do seem to shy away from sunlight while staying close to the shadows, as well...

How all this affects the host, however, I cannot say with certainty. ... Yet, I have noticed that hosts tend to grow hostile or try and extend the creatures to others.

I am currently helping to investigate the matter. If you possess any other information on these, I would greatly appreciate you sharing it here.

[ In some place that is not the medical building in the Cosmo Conservatory, Sherlock stands in front of another wall of paper, pins, and different colored strings. Upon closer inspection, many of the pieces of paper are actually various maps. Each map appears to be made by a different cartographer, and Sherlock has placed them in generalized areas as a full map of this part of the ocean would lack the required details. The strings are beginning to form a complex web, and using the colored strings as a guide, the strings and pins begin to converge to a more specific area.

Like another such post, Sherlock doesn't turn around to address the camera. He remains poking at various points of information, adjusting something here or there. ]

By now, we've figured out that Shadow the Hedgehog is behind many of the recent larval attacks and disappearances, though intentionality has yet to be established.

[ Sherlock may not know Shadow well despite having worked with him multiple times, but this doesn't seem like something Shadow would want to do. He could be wrong, but… he's keeping an open mind that this is being done against Shadow's actual will.

Oh, is that one, two, no three snoots poking into camera frame? Basker is here and not about to let anything or anyone harm Sherlock. ]

Sightings of Shadow have all dried up. So Professor Turo and I are sorting through the data to deduce where he is now. Cross-referencing when and where previous reports of sightings against current larval activity, disappearances, and other related info, we should be able narrow down where we might find him.

Say you've never really celebrated a birthday before until recently and you were blindsided by that by someone you love and cherish and now you want to do something again for your birthday because the thought of spending it the way you're accustomed to fills you with a bunch of complicated feelings you'd much rather ignore than examine. In that hypothetical scenario, what do you....like...do? Like, what if your hobbies are usually affairs that aren't suited for a group?

[ It isn't easy for a man with as much pride as Emet-Selch to apologise. He has had an entire month to think about what to say during his stint in Lunare's nose mines, but even so...it takes a few minutes for him to compose himself before he turns on the video feed.

Good afternoon, riftfarers. A moon prior, I'm told I attacked and hurt a great many people - not only some of you but native inhabitants of Lunare. Although I was not in possession of my senses at the time, I realise that does not erase my actions. I'm sure a mere apology will not be much of a salve for those I hurt but I offer one all the same.

[ He pauses, tapping his fingers with a frown directed slightly off to the side. ]

I've also decided to offer lessons in sorcery. Magic, spell-casting - call it what you will: I'm considered peerless amongst my brethren on the subject and, as some of you already know, I have had aeons to master my skills. The lessons were not intended to be a part of my apology but I suppose...if you were one of the few I attacked a moon ago then contact me in private and we may arrange something.

Greetings,

I’m called Miriam; I’m one of several who’s been investigating the disappearance of the villagers from Marrowmouth, down the coast from the lighthouse. Though I do not know all of you, I believe I have information to share instead of feeling as though I’m chasing shadows.

Whatever took all these people also took the village’s boats, save for one too mired in red seaweed to be salvageable. There was a cut net on board, however—and the net was surrounded by a binding circle. To keep an entity contained—or trap those who came along to look into the matter. Which almost happened to me.

The crimson seaweed that washed up on the shore has its origins further out to sea; its stalks go far deeper into the water than any kelp forest I’ve seen, and it doesn’t seem attached to anything. Large mats of it drift wherever the current takes them. They feel...unpleasant to touch, but the worst is what hides within them. Predatory fish, some from my world. A group of hostile mer has made exploring the sargassum a bit troublesome.

If you’ve uncovered other information, I’d be glad to hear it. Others may find it useful, as well.

P.S. I’ve found what that antivenom was for, Sherlock.

I've been thinking about something lately and I figure I might as well ask the rest of you for a bit of advice.

I realised it's coming up on a year since I met my partner, pretty soon here. I've never really dated anyone seriously before, or paid much attention to these things at all if I'm honest.

What sort of thing do most people do for a first anniversary? How… big of a deal is it generally considered to be? I don’t want to go overboard or anything but I’d like to do something nice.

Apparently, I'm a Paladin? Having my magic carpet will mean I can get around easily enough, at least with shorter distances, before I figure which crew to join. That's probably important, huh? So we can find the map to figure getting back home? It's like an adventure! One of the stories I grew up reading and listening to back home! So cool!

[He may be rather more excited than seeming overly concerned about ending up in some strange new world. But. Well, that's Kalim. Not much seems to phase him. At least outwardly. He turns the feed off so he can focus on finding the accommodation he had been told about, not wanting to get too distracted while wandering and exploring this new setting.]
