Video || 3 Bottles And a Ring
Type: Video
Sender ID: catsgothistongue (Ranma S.)
To: Public
Subject: Ranma found some goodies he has no use/no knowledge on, so he's giving them away to any takers.
Warnings: Alcohol, small mention of underage drinking, probably cursed ring that makes people go mad and experience hallucinations, more will be added as needed.
[The video feed opens up to Ranma sitting somewhere in Eltrut, seated at a table with a bag right beside him.]
'Sup. Me and a birdbrain went treasure hunting on a ship a month ago, and these things have been sitting around my place since. I thought about pawning them off to one of the shops here, but I figured I'd see if anyone'd want to take them off my hand first.
[His hand reached into the bag, and pulled out an expansive bottle of alcohol by the nozzle.]
There's two more in here that's the exact same brand. Looks like rum if the labels' are correct. I haven't opened or drank from it, hasn't been messed with, nothing. I certainly don't want it, gotten drunk too many times in my life already. Anyone wants a bottle, you can come meet me at one of the shops in Eltrut, I'll be outside. If you want more than one, it'll cost you a pretty penny.
[Putting the bottle bag in the bag before sitting back.]
Oh! There's something else! Almost forgot about this thing...
[Ranma pulled out a clothed jewelry box that he opened up, showing off a ring. The ring was adorned with a dark purple gemstone cut and shaped into the image of a skull, with small green gemstones for eyes. Staring at it even from beyond the screen makes one feel like it is staring directly into their souls, and no matter how Ranma moved it or they're viewing the angle, the skull always faces them.]
Freaky, huh? It was in the same crate the rum was. Haven't actually worn it myself, but I've kept it around my place. It's... weird. It feels like it keeps looking at me, even when it's in its box. Sometimes I'll even find it outside it at times. Might be super cursed... So anyone want it?
[Oh what a tempting bargain...]

he lets out a little laugh. )
I don't know about "want", but I do feel that might be the better option.
I could relieve you of it.
( before someone else gets horribly cursed or hurt or some other terrible thing that might come from a cursed ring.
is he really just going to give it to him so easily? )
no subject
[Asking beforehand, because he isn't just going to give the ring to anyone. He's smarter than that! Despite... all the evidence to the contrary.]
no subject
Yes. I would say that I am somewhat knowledgeable on the topic.
no subject
Great to know. Meet me here in Eltrut, pronto.
[To help locate it, he also showed the name of the shop by readjusting the frame of the video.]
➔ action; eltrut
this isn't quite how he thought he would be spending the day, but he supposes he wasn't actually doing anything that couldn't be done later. he could get to eltrut.
and so he does. within minutes, aziraphale casually walks out from a nearby street as if he didn't just simply manifest himself there. )
Good afternoon!
( he calls with a little wave. )
Re: ➔ action; eltrut
Ranma was perceptive when it came to looking for things or people. Plus it helped that Aziraphale stuck out like a sore thumb.]
That was quicker than I expected. Yo.
[Giving a wave back, Ranma leaned back in his chair.]
Pull up a seat if ya' want.
no subject
I happened to be nearby.
( or so he says.
he takes that offer easily, lifting a seat out for himself with a chipper "don't mind if i do!". )
Forgive me for being so direct, but you did say that you didn't wear the item, correct?
( because this young man's well-being was of genuine concern to aziraphale. )
no subject
Having no reason to suspect otherwise, he accepted it and pulled out the bag. Pulling out the bottles first to reach the box better, sliding it on the table and popping the top back. There it was, that same skull ring. It's just as unsettling as it was on video, perhaps more in person.]
No? Why would I? I've been keeping it around my place for the last month. Haven't worn it once, honest.
[He held up his hands as if to show no recent markings or indication he's put it on.]
no subject
they're not historically known for their decision making skills. )
That's good. It's never wise to go around touching menacing jewellery.
( he says. while this one is also historically known, aziraphale also knows from experience.
reaching out, he carefully places his fingers against the sides of the box and tugs it closer for inspection. )
Mm. What a terrible little thing. I certainly hope you kept the box closed. Cannot imagine this little gaze of its would be comfortable.
( but he also has more questions. )
Where did you say you found this?
no subject
Trust me, I've dealt with plenty of cursed crap in my life, more than I'd like to. I'd rather not add to it.
[The box itself wasn't giving off any ominous warning signs. The most noteworthy thing about it was the clothe adorning it was really soft and nice to touch. It was only the ring itself that was vexed.]
On an abandoned ship in the coral forest. It was when we were docked at the last leviathan, the crab one. Rody and I went treasure hunting on some wreckage, and apart from this,-- [Pulling out the bottles of rum.]-- these, a locket, a buttload of gold, and whatever else that birdbrain found, everything else was picked clean.
no subject
( said mostly in jest, but that doesn't mean that he isn't listening closely.
unfortunately, it is right as this young man mentions his friend's name that aziraphale realises that he had forgotten to get his last time they had met.
hm. he's going to have to figure out how to politely ask. )
And the locket is clean?
( there's a quick glance at the rest of the items, but he already didn't feel anything emanating evil from any piece other than the ring. just this. )
no subject
[Curses and freaky magic stuff has a tendency to appear wherever he goes! Gender-changing springs, sentient bathing suit with an affinity for drowning girls, age-changing mushrooms, it's hard to think of a moment when nothing cursed or magical hadn't made his life all the more difficult. It's like he's a weirdness magnet or something!
He rummaged around his pockets and pulled out the locket, sliding it over to the elder. It was made of a cheap material imitating gold, as the only item of true value was the photograph of what looked to be the owner's family. No traces of evil ruminated from it, it was just a simple widget left behind.]
Looks that way. I can't tell if it is, but it just looks like an ordinary necklace to me. I meant to look around town for anyone who knew who could've owned it, or if they knew the folks in the picture, I just got held up by other things.
[Aka he forgot for a whole month.]
what's going on in ranma 1/2
it's certainly the nice thing to do, but he couldn't fault him for not prioritising it. 'held up by other things' is a fairly apt descriptor for an average day here. )
Well then—
( he smiles warmly, obviously a little excited for what he's about to do next. )
Would you like to see a magic trick?
comedy. at the characters' (mainly ranma's) expense
The showman kind of magic trick with smoke and mirrors, or the actual bona fide kind of magic trick?
no subject
( downright chipper as he reaches down to pick up the ring, sliding it onto one of his fingers. it flashes gold for a single brilliant second and its sinister aura dissipates, curse broken. he flips the ring through his fingers a few times, entirely for the sake of showmanship—he's been learning human magic tricks and it's been quite thrilling!—before setting it back down in its box. )
Ta-daa! Perfectly sellable condition now.
( in fact, it looks freshly polished even. )
no subject
You actually did it?
[Forgive him for being a skeptic, but he had to see it to believe it. Ranma took the ring and put it on his ring finger, and waited. Waited for whatever effects to take place. Nothing. It was nothing more than an ordinary ring with an ornate decorative skull design to it.]
... [He studied it, taking it off to pinch between his finger and thumb.] ... Can you only do that to cursed objects?
[Could it be possible...?]
no subject
No.
( then a pause as he thinks a little further about it. )
Although I suppose it might depend on the curse.
( and who it had been placed by. he couldn't do anything about a curse placed upon a mortal by God herself. neither would he even agree to try. )
no subject
How about the type of curse that makes people's bodies change? Could you remove it?
no subject
( immediate answer. he couldn't see any reason why not.
then a thought. )
Is that why you carry around the hot water?
no subject
Yep. Think I brought up with you before how people from back home had a 'condition' that made them change? It's a curse they all got from a cursed spring ground. And I got knocked in one myself.
no subject
Oh, I see.
( this young man is lucky he didn't drown in those springs. )
And what is it that you transform into?
no subject
A girl. Cold water touches me, I turn into a chick. Do you think whatever magic you did for the ring could work on me?
no subject
( aziraphale's eyebrows lift, surprised.
it turns him into a girl? how curious! )
I don't see any reason as to why I could not.
( what he means is yes. he's just reluctant to make any concrete promises. )
But am I understanding this correctly? Cold water triggers your transformation and hot water removes it? I wonder, do things like eating soup count. . .?
( it's written all over his face, he's fascinated by this. )
Are you sure you'd wish to remove it?
no subject
Do you need a demonstration? Yeah, that's how it works. Cold water triggers the curse, hot water reverses it. Luckily, it only causes the change when it touches my skin. Drinking anything liquid doesn't affect it.
[Thankfully. Otherwise, he'd be changing to a girl every time he downed a water bottle. It'd just cause him more trouble than needed.
His face dropped to a light scowl.]
Yes, I am. Any man with a smidge of dignity would!
no subject
this is not a sentiment aziraphale understands at all, but it seems important to this young man. )
Mm, alright.
( but more importantly, he really wants to see this curse in action. he's never heard of anything like that. he would absolutely bury this boy in questions if time allowed. )
I must admit, I would be appreciative if I could see it. But first, I don't believe I asked for your name last time?
( because it would just be too rude to ask him to demonstrate anything without asking this first. )
