Hail, fellow riftfarers:

I write today with a few... wonderings, you might call them. As a few of you may know, my occupation prior to my arrival was that of an innkeeper, so I've found myself rather curious about the state of the hospitality industry here.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from those of you who have rather taken to a life at sea since arriving here, and who have formed crews and the like. If you've a moment to write back, I would appreciate it so very much and would be happy to answer any questions you may have in turn!

• How often do you come ashore to rest at inns or taverns?
  
• What amenities would you most like to see in at an inn?
  
• What sort of food or drink do you find yourself seeking most when you're ashore?
  
• What type of entertainment would you be most interested in during your stay?

I realize I'm adding to a rather plentiful collection of questionnaires and inquiries here... or... innquiries?

[ He knows it somehow refers to Sherlock Holmes, but the exact details of that still elude him. He could guess it has something to do with his mother... but it can just as easily refer to the color or the flower. ]

Yours is, at the very least, a series of words that seems to form some coherent thought. I'm absolutely confounded by what "air" and "dnd" could even mean or what it could possibly have to do with me...

Sure enough, I'd forgotten that would be an option...

I wonder if I ought to wait until after I've settled on a name for my business, then. It would make sense to change my alias to that of the inn's name...

Indeed, it does make sense.

[ Sherlock is less interested in changing his because he's found out that people reacting to it means they know of him from somewhere else, likely a book. It is useful information even if he dislikes being compared to that other Sherlock Holmes (and then failing those expectations). ]

I'm afraid I lack any meaningful input to your survey. I travel by ship only when necessary.

That's quite alright! If anything, you've surfaced an important point, here... do you make use of teleportation magic frequently? I've heard of those rings... I know not everyone has one, but it does make me wonder if there's less of a need for a business such as an inn if people can, for the most part, simply return home...

I have a fully leveled up ring set to deliver me back to my apartment. Unless I stay at my destination for an extended length of time, I usually return there when my task is done.

It is during those extended stays which give me a need for an inn, but it is not feasible for you to build and staff an inn at every port.

No, certainly not, though I suppose if the venture was successful enough multiple locations could be considered...

But no. [ that's so much work ] It will be an interesting challenge, to manage an inn that is rooted in one location permanently. Very different from my family's inn!

Your family's inn can change locations? Is it on a vehicle?

No, not a vehicle, but in... something like an alternate plane from which it can reach many places at once. I'm afraid I can't get more specific than that... trade secrets and all.

Regardless, it's not something that to my knowledge would be possible here, but the best I could do would be to offer the inn as a return point for others' rings, but I imagine most would wish to return to their own residence.

A shame since that could have solved some of your problems for creating an inn here.

It most certainly would have... but I won't let that deter me! Even my ancestors faced such obstacles when they first established our in, I'm sure.

I do hope you'll visit every now and again once it is open, Mister Sherlock!
