{Video | Crescent Moon}

Type: Video
Sender ID: crescentmoon (Sesshomaru)
To: Public
Subject: Answers. He seeks them.
Warnings: Sesshomaru being a grump.

{Silver hair flies in the wind and soft white fur is gently ruffled against a pale cheek. Sesshomaru is quite a striking presence wherever he goes, bearing the signs of his good breeding in the form of two crimson stripes on his cheeks and a purple crescent moon on his forehead. His ears taper into delicate points, too, and his eyes are the color of rich amber. When he speaks, he is accustomed to being listened to and obeyed.

Thus his first appearance on the network is dramatic, yet brief.}

Speak.

{His low voice brooks no argument and his expression is cold. He is difficult to read in the best of circumstances and his current predicament doesn't necessarily signify anything good.}

I am Sesshomaru, Lord of the Western Lands. What have you discovered about this world and the rifts?

...Bark.

[Yeah this lady is less than impressed with you, sir.]

There is little to learn. The people here know little of them, nor the cause of our intrusion here.

Then direct your questions to the Leviathan below your feet, instead of the men on it's back. Or had you not noticed that the ground you walk breathes?

[Skill issue, sir!]

It is of no use either way. Whatever it is that brought us here, relic or sorcerer holding it, has not been found. These men the rifts dragged here search for it.

We are returned to the exact moment we were brought from, when it's grip loosens. If you're concerned about keeping your appointments, don't be.

The question is less if they can speak, and more if any of us speak their language.

[She can, but that does not mean Eltrut or Nogard are willing to speak to her--but she hasn't been asked about that, so she does not volunteer it.]

You are certainly not alone in this. But it is the riftfarers who are looking for answers, so you might well contend with men after all.

[She pauses, and tilts her head, contemplating who she's met since returning.] For a given value of 'men', I suppose.
desirestruth: (What if I return?)

Yes, but they're not inclined to be talkative to an outsider, it seems.

[Naeva pauses, and tilts her head.] Well, if they are required to have no powers, not even the men who were such in their own worlds are so here, for what brings them here grants them magic even if they had none.

[A longer pause.] I don't know that many came without. But I haven't been here in a year's time, and I haven't taken a formal survey of the population.

There's no blood in the ink, so that method of control isn't in play. If it could be used to control the riftfarers, I think they'd have roped us into this war they pretend isn't brewing between the natives wearing different colored hats.

[The amount she DOES NOT CARE about the armadas cannot be overstated.]

That no one's decided to use outsiders as a weapon by now says they can't do it. That's easier to believe than the power exists and just hasn't been used.

It's really about the practicality of it. The Leviathans could kill us without such tricks--why bother? And these men on their backs; if they could have, they would be. The greed of men is at least consistent.

Blood isn't necessary, but it's powerful, for all it's simplicity. A curse even a human can use.

[Of course, she might be more sensitive to the uses of blood and blood magic than most but...no need to share the particulars of her nature.]
desirestruth: (And follow this song)

No one's managed to yet. Everything dies, but I'm not in a hurry.

[She's not going to comment on the presumption of their respective power. For all they know, his arrogance is accurate--she isn't interested in testing that. That's the kinda thing that loses you limbs and gets entire lands cursed! Bad idea!]

....Hmmm, it works differently, where I'm from.

Blood magic is simple--it only requires blood, and the will to use it. The cost is high...but it is the magic of the desperate and the cornered.

Beasts, humans, spirits, demons and dragons...the drive to survive pushes all of them past their normal limits. Fear and anger only feed the need. A simple peasant can take down even a dragon if she has the courage, or enough desperation to substitute. If you know what you're doing, it doesn't even have to be your blood.

It's dangerous, and forbidden for it. Not many blood mages live long enough to become skilled at it. The ones that do...tend to inspire armies to come make sure they don't continue being skilled at it.
