[Before there was any imagine, only the sound of someone shuffling about with the device could be heard. A muffled 'Does this really work?' in a female voice followed shortly after. More unintelligible mumbling as suddenly a picture of a rather unflattering angle of a drow's face from being held waaaay too close flicked across the screen. A pair of pale white eyes widen in mixture of surprise and excitement.]

Oh! It really does work.

[There was a beat before the drow realized it wasn't just her seeing her own image, but that she was broadcasting it to everyone. There was another little small gasp as the video shifted. Being held out at the proper distance, one could see the woman squarely in the frame. Koh cleared her throat, giving a small wave with her free hand.]

Hello, sorry about that... I was testing out the functions I was told this device was capable of. I don't have anything like this where I am from so just.... familiarizing myself with it. It seems my visit here is a bit more extensive than I previously had hoped it would be. I... usually don't stay in one place for too long. I guess a formal introduction is in order.

My name is Kolnatha Shavval, but you can just all me Koh for short. In case anyone is in need of a healer, I am a cleric by trade. Which, on that note, would anyone happen to know where I can acquire medicinal herbs? Specifically ones that can aid in relieving motion sickness? [There was slight awkward pause.] I... don't exactly have my sea legs yet.

Oh. Oh! [Flustered back paddling.] I didn't realize. Sorry if I was being insensitive. You look different from the demons I am familiar with.

You change forms? That would make sense. With your pointed ears and fair skin I thought you might be an elf. What was throwing me off were the eyes...

[There was a soft hum as she is lost in thought for a moment.]

Sorry, we spent all this time chatting I haven't even asked for your name.

A wizard would be more educated on the matter but I would be more than happy to explain what I know.

[Koh stops to smile.]

The Weave is what all magic is drawn from. It's like an unseen fabric that touches almost every corner of existence. If you know how to pluck the threads, you can harness its power, to channel it into spells. I lack the talent to understand how it works. But I do like reading books on magic.

Oooh... huh! That actually sounds like a beautiful way to put it! Not sure it works the same way where I'm from, but you sound smarter about it than you give yourself credit for.

[The drow flushes slightly, waving her hand.]

Oh no, I promise you my knowledge is only limited to what I can understand from reading books. It's a rather clumsy explanation if you ever hear someone who is studied in it talk about it. I... [There was tremble of hesitation in her voice.] ... knew someone who was gifted. The things they could do were... astonishing.

Yeah, I kinda stick to land when it's like that.

Uh...nope. She's tall with long black hair, and I'm pretty sure she has a sense of humour.

Yeah, going to stick to "land" as much as I can help it. I know eventually I will need to get back on a ship if i want to find my way home.

Then your friend is not the person I ran into. Your friend sounds much more personable.

Hey hey, I didn't come here to listen to you kick yourself. Did you hear a complaint from me? Nah. I said what I meant, and I meant what I said - you're explaining it in a great way!

No, sorry, you're right. Thank you for the compliment on my crude depiction then. You mentioned your world also has magic? How does yours work?

I am a demon. Most pure-bred demons possess two forms. {At least!} I have never encountered an elf.

{They seem closer to humans in his judgement - if she is one. Though her appearance does set her apart. She might have abilities he hasn't considered.}

That does sound impressive. [She gave him a small smile. He may not be an elf, but he certainly talks like some noble drows she knows. So concerned about the 'purity' of their lineage.] I have met quite a few elves during my travels. They... don't particularly like my kind. [Or anyone for that matter.] Sorted history.

[She adds, brushing it off. He didn't seem like the chatty sort who was interested in a history lesson.]

It is a pleasure meet you, Sesshomaru. Which ship do you reside on currently? We might be crew mates.

As for me and mine... well, to be honest, the "how" of it is pretty lost on me. See, for the longest time, my Uncle Scrooge forbade any magic in the house. He thought of it as a cheat. So the only interaction I had with it for decades was storing any dangerous magical artifacts away, or beating up evil wizards and the like.

But! Lately he's been easing up on it, especially now that we have actual magical allies.

{In his case, his purity ensures power, so there is some logic to it.}

What would you call your kind? {If she isn't an elf? It's important to be exact about such things.}

I am on The Royal Fortune.

I'm a drow. My kind and elves were once one race a very long time ago. But my ancestors were cast out and banished to the Underdark for their loyalty to the Spider Queen.

[Koh tried to behave herself not to get too wrapped up in story telling, cutting the tale off there. History was one of her favorite subjects.]

Oh... I see. [The drow hums softly to herself.] A Pitt, then. We are on different ships. I'm assigned to The Stormbringer.

Magic is a cheet? Well, I suppose it could seem that way to those who can't wield it. This Uncle of yours... Is he a collector of sorts?

Of sorts! [ hahaha~ ]

He's the richest duck in the world - and made big by adventuring! We travel all over the world to find hidden treasures, uncover ancient civilizations, and take down whatever villains in our way!

Sounds like you lead a colorful life. I'm an adventure myself. Though my mission differs than ours.

Ah, that such were possible— but as circumstances go, I have seen worse. Despite the chaos that ensued later in the evening, I'm choosing to remember the more pleasant parts— largely the food and the good company.

Is that suspicion or curiosity I hear? A mix of both, perhaps? No, no, it's hardly secret; if you've even a passing interest in alchemy, I believe it is easily replicated.

I know I will have to force myself to get used to it. Boats and the sea aren't.... my favorite things. It could be worse. We could be flying.

Tifa... [The drow mutters to herself, nodding. She will have to remember that name.] I hope I get a chance to meet her. What ship are you assigned to?
