Calligraphy? Writing with a quill is not so different than a fountain pen. While I do not know if it will be "swirly" enough for your means, I believe I could manage.

I'm used to pens, not quills, but I can do beautiful writing if that's the part you need.

[He excelled at one thing, and it's really just the same skillset: beautiful writing and beautiful sigils. The latter doesn't mean much in this world, but maybe he can do something with the former.]

I'm sure some people do, but they were fairly out of fashion by the time I was in school. Pencils and fountain pens, mostly.

my ma sure didn't like trying to clean the ink off of me or my clothes
so sometimes i'd go down to the river with my mates and we'd try to wash up before we had to toddle home

probably still some ink prints on the rocks from us

The Guild was sure to drum writing into my head along with everything else, though I'm not sure how pretty it would be. My texts have been accused of being formal letters before, though.

Zelda might be more help for calligraphy.
