Drowsiness upon waking is normal, I suppose, but who knows if it's really just like waking up from a normal sleep.

Well, dreams aside, I think the strangest "symptom" I experienced was lack thereof when I awoke. One should not be able to survive a month of sleep without consuming any food or water, but somehow I did. But I woke feeling the same as I always do.

[ Overthinking intensifies. ]

... Although now that I think about it, I did experience intense cravings for fruit smoothies for some time afterward.

[ Almost as if someone on the other side of the fourth wall was playing a video game with a smoothie-blending mechanic. ]

I don't think that counts. Just might've been a strong craving after being asleep for a month.

[ Zelda huffs as well, hers with a twinge of impatience. ]

Well, you asked for any possible symptoms.

[ She pauses, clearing her throat to settle her ruffled feelings. ]

Did you experience any? And how long did your slumber last?

Disorientation and from what I've been told, about a month.

[ Huffiness intensifies. You make fun of her reported symptom and yet yours is so mundane?? ]

Disorientation to what extent? Because I believe that's natural to experience every time you wake up.

I doubt it's natural if the disorientation is bad enough to cause nausea and dizziness.

...Hmm, you're right, I don't believe that is normal at all.

[ All traces of huffiness have left her voice. She's completely serious now. ]

Are you in need of medical care? I am the Captain of a medical vessel and I should be glad to bring you some medicine if you need it.

No, I'm fine. Just need some readjusting to waking up. [Pause.] But I'll be sure to keep that in mind should I need your services.

Which reminds me, I don't believe we have been properly introduced. My name is Zelda. I'm a researcher from the kingdom of Hyrule and Captain of the Seventh Heroine.

The old man? [ It takes her a moment. ] Oh, you must mean Cid. Yes, that was me with him.

A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Leona. [ Polite and courteous. ] You're a riftfarer as well, aren't you? I've not heard of anyone native to this world suffering these unnaturally long bouts of sleep.

I am. If that's the case, then it's enough to believe that it'll only continue to affect the riftfarers instead of the natives. Not unless they put themselves into a coma instead.

[Though, that's not really the same thing.]

[ She takes a moment to consider this. ]

I don't believe that would be quite the same thing as we've experienced.

[ Hopefully the natives don't start doing that... ]

I must say, you seem to be taking this experience fairly well. When I woke from my own coma, I was quite on edge for some time afterwards. And waking up to the red moon certainly didn't help matters.

I like a good sleep. I'm more pissed off that the choice of doing it voluntarily was taken from me. I imagine the red moon only made things worst.

[ Is a month your definition of a "good sleep," Leona? Kinda concerning... ]

Significantly. In my homeworld, a red moon called the Blood Moon used to rise every month, going back one hundred years. It marked the height of an evil being's power and any of its monsters slain in the previous weeks were resurrected to terrorize the land once more.

Sounds awful. Seems like you've got some trauma from that.

Zelda stiffens. She's not used to someone pointing out her trauma at all, let alone this casually. ]

How'd you end up handling it then when you woke up to it?

Not particularly well, to tell the truth. When I first saw it, I panicked. I thought it was the work of a monster from my world who resides here, so I confronted him about it.

As it turns out, it was not his doing. The red moon here is a natural occurrence in late autumn every year. It is called the Ghoul's Moon. And although it bears unsettling similarities to Hyrule's Blood Moon, it is largely innocuous.
