Hello again, Stolas here. I have a, hopefully, quick magical inquiry.

This goes out to any and all magical users, or those possibly without before coming here. It has been on my mind for a while about those... special tattoos? Let's say for example you had magical powers but they were stripped from you prior to arriving here. Would getting one of these unique markings help regain them or simply give you new ones?

I would be very curious to know how they have affected others with their own abilities. What has been everyone's personal experience with them?

[The words 'Magical Inquiry' had Gale's undivided attention even before he had opened the message itself.]

I would be happy to assist you in this endeavor! Back home, I was once considered a wizard of some acclaim. Upon my arrival here, I was unable to cast spells despite the fact that it has always come to me naturally, but upon receiving one of those tattoos, I was able to use magic almost exactly as I always had. There are some small differences; I am unable to sense the Weave, the source of all magic in my own world, but I'm able to cast as though I could still draw upon its power.

I was born with magical power that was locked away when I arrived here. One of those tattoos unlocked my magic. Haven't tried all of my spells yet, but the ones I have tried work as they should. I've heard of them giving people new abilities, unlike ones they had naturally from home, but I've yet to try another one myself.

So far nothing's blown up in my face, so I'll take that win.

My powers were restored upon a tattoo. If there is a difference, I have yet to discover it.

So you're wondering if you could perhaps reawaken those abilities with a tattoo? Could be worth trying. If it was yours at one point, I would think it could be again.

It sounds as though you've fallen on hard times, my friend.

Indeed, these tattoos will restore your pre-existing powers, but they do grant potential to learn something new, as well. How you make use of that is up to you, but should you choose to pursue a new sort of magic, you'll have that opportunity.

I couldn't shapeshift when I got here, but one of their tattoos made me myself again. Can't say what would happen if the powers were stripped away before you got here.

But you can get new ones. I think a lot of them are elemental of the ones you can get here. It's a wide array of elemental ones, not just your basics.

No matter if your powers come back or you get new ones, you gotta refresh the tattoo every once in a while. And you can change them a little too. That's what I did last time I refreshed mine. Got an "upgrade", I guess.

In my experience, yes. I was unable to cast any spells during the time I was undecided whether or not to get the tattoo. I now have the ability to call upon them, though I've noticed there have been a few differences.

I can't say I've ever lost any powers that I wished to restore so I'm not sure how helpful my experience would be. But the tattoos seem easy enough to acquire. Do you have any reservations about simply trying it out?

If they are gone, that truth remains whether you are ignorant of it or not. The hope you're holding onto may be a comfort but I think it's better to take the chance. Either outcome will open a path forward.

I suppose there's but one way to find out, hm? Of course, you've piqued my interest now; there are few things I find more intriguing than the opportunity to learn of magic from other worlds.

No. They were suppressed upon my arrival.

Ah.

[ she'd sort of figured it was locked away, but having it stripped fully? to someone whose magic is a large part of her identity, the idea hurts. a lot like a lost limb and she knows well what that's like. ]

Then I suppose it's a question of whether you want to see if it's possible to get back what was lost or if you can find something close to it by the laws of magic here. Might be able to explain what it was well enough that it could be feasible, but... it's also a risk. Not sure if it could backfire.
