[ Woe, a video feed of a lavender-haired twink be unto ye. He looks a little put out as he winds a strand of his hair around his finger - it does look to be more wavy and frizzy than would be natural. ]

Greetings, fellow riftfarers. I am Hythlodaeus, a bard... and a crew member of the Raiders of the Lost Arts. [ Why did Hades pick such a long name for the crew! ]

My home lies in a different climate, and the local conditions do not agree with my hair, as you can see... Have any of you advice for taking care of one's hair here? Any treatments you use yourselves, mayhap?

I have taken to using oils and balms after washing my own. I also tie it up at night and that seems to keep it from tangling most days.

[Founder knows any knots in that long hair of hers are the banes of her existence.]

[ Fellow long hair sufferer!!! Hythlodaeus winces in sympathy as he imagines having to card out the tangles when your hair is that long; he already doesn't like it, and his hair is shorter than Jill's. ]

Tying it up is a sound idea. I usually wear it braided, yet even then it's oft in a terrible state in the morning...

May I ask what oils you use?

Someone once also suggested using a silk pillowcase, but I wasn't sure whether that would actually do any thing other than feel extravagant, so I never purchased one.

[That and she can just imagine how much silk to sleep on would cost. Jill is quite the frugal lady.]

Oils of coconut, almond, and olive. Usually just a bit on the ends lest I appear as if I neglected to wash my hair. For special occasions, I will add a few drops of a floral oil such as rose or jasmine, but that is more for scent than to keep it in check.

[ While Jill is frugal, Hythlodaeus is... well, he's used to having a friend who will indulge any of his whims if Hythlodaeus just pesters him enough. Note to self: annoy Hades into buying him a silk pillow.

And Hythlodaeus is also something of a gossip. ]

Oh? What manner of special occasions, if I may ask?

[Clive would indulge her whims too if she had just asked him for a silk pillow. Hell, the man would give her the moon and stars if he could. But just as frugal as she is, Jill is also uncomplicated. A certain number of hard years have made her appreciative of the most basic of basics.]

Dinners, holidays, extravagant galas. Things out of the everyday that require a bit more than simply running a brush through my hair.

[Not that there's been many of those since she got here. Maybe a couple, but none in the last few months.]

I've made a number of oils and some shampoo and conditioners that help a lot. The trick is using coconut oil, usually!

I'd be more than happy to share some of what I have--it makes in large batches so goodness knows I have too much of it--and teach you how to make it yourself, if you like.

Would you be so kind? I did wonder previously whether you were simply born with it, to be able to look this good in this climate.

Oh, hahaha, no. Sumeru is a jungle climate, but it's not on the sea, and the salt water has been havoc on my hair.

[I mean he does look ethereal and gorgeous even when he's frizzed out and sleep-deprived but we're not talking about that.]

I have lotion for your hands, too, if your skin's been drying out.

Others have given you suggestions, ser. I'm interested in knowing if you will take them up on it.

If not, then mayhap you could find a new style. Start a new trend.

I struggle to think of a style that would work with this frizz... Unless I shave my head completely. Now that would be a new trend, hmm?

If I may ask... would you need to shave the fur on your ears as well, in that case?

I'm not sure that anyone would want to see either of us without hair.

Have you seen a shaved cat? 'Tis not a pleasant sight.

I have! Some people have tried proposing the concept of furless felines... and other creations. None were able to truly prove their ideas were viable, however.

[ It's hard, being in charge of reviewing concepts. He has seen Things. ]

Shaved and being born hairless are two different things, I would think.

Though it's been a long time since I have had long hair, I have been getting along here well enough with just soap.

[What is self care? The soap bottle said it had so many uses! It works well enough for him, he thinks.]

[ Hythlodaeus's expression briefly goes wooden at the mention of "just soap". Just soap??? Even Hades, who is rarely fussed about his appearance, knows to use different things for hair and for skin!

True, and the treatment one uses should be chosen individually. Certainly there are oils or balms better suited for your hair than simply... soap?

[He shifts nervously]

A-ah, I wouldn't know them, I'm afraid. Keyward Hesperos once mentioned an array of things, but I'd always considered cleaning the oils and assorted substances of Pandæmonium's environs away to be enough for me.

[All the rest seemed... like a self-indulgence he wasn't good enough to justify doing for himself. Why spend more time on himself when he should be practising magicks or laboring to care for the creations' needs?]

[ CHILD... THAT IS SO DEPRESSING... ]

But there is no Pandaemonium here! You should take the opportunity to relax and take better care of yourself.

My friend Kaveh says he has enough products to share. Mayhap we could ask him to give you some as well.

[He actually goes a little stiff at the thought of burdening someone else with giving stuff to him.]

[ Hythlodaeus blinks in surprise. That reaction is more than what he'd expect from someone who is merely flustered. Could there be something else there?..

He thinks back on the last conversation he had with Erichthonios. And though Hythlodaeus is not awfully familiar with that kind of mental wound, it still makes the gears in his head turn.

He gives Erich a reassuring smile, though a bit mischievous, and raises a finger. ]

And what if he were happy to share? Besides, 'tis important to take care of oneself! I am certain young Elidibus would agree~

[Erichtnonios nearly relaxes in response to the continued casualness of Hythlodaeus' demeanor, but as soon as his friend's title leaves the man's lips, Erichthionios is overcome with an entirely different sort of nervousness.]

Elidibus...?

[Fidgeting, he looks to the side, abashed.]

I... a-ah, I suppose you are right. He does caution me to mind my well-being...

[ Ah-ha. Hythlodaeus congratulates himself on reading things right; this should be a surefire way to get Erichthonios to look after himself... and, well, to tease him. ]

See? Imagine how impressed he would be, if you were to return to our star looking your best~

I don't know that I would go that far...

[Clearly flustered now, the man's cheeks begin to color even as he steadfastly averts his gaze.

Please don't tease him. Please don't tease him, Chief Hythlodaeus.

[ Of course he's going to get teased. Hythlodaeus just looks extremely smug as he rests his chin on his hand. ]

Hmm? Why not? I thought you two to be close... You have a poppet of him, do you not?

[The stammering man's blush deepens by several shades, brightening his features and making his ears feel hot.]

A-and I -- I don't think it was he who gave it to me!

[Not that he would object to such a gift from him, of course. But surely he was not the one to have given it to him. Would he not have done so in person?]

Oh? Then... someone else must have come to the same conclusion as me?

[ Ohhh, he's having fun. ]

[The panicking Erichthonios fails to notice the obviously-worded trap set before him, so fearful of seeming uncaring of his newly-formed friendship, and of word spreading to that very friend's ears, utter nonsense though it is.]

[ Hythlodaeus probably should feel bad for bullying a young man like this... but Erich is making it so easy. How is he supposed to resist? ]

Well, then! Would you not wish to look your best for your friend?~

I-I. A-ah. T-That is--

[He stammers with increasing helplessness, face feeling akin to the glowing vent of a volcano. He feels so hot, he finds it a wonder that he yet stands.]

I -- I don't wish to embarass him, if that is what you are suggesting!

[He finally blurts , cringing and visibly drawing back at the thought, though the shellphone goes with him the same amount of space.]

And I-- I certainly wouldn't want him to get the impression that I think little of him!

[Hythlodaeus may or may not take note of the fact that the person responding to him has, in fact, no visible hair to speak of. It's housed inside what may look like a hair wrap attached to a visor that covers the entirety of her face.

All the same, the question intrigues her.]

I may be able to assist after a few diagnostic questions, if you don't mind. The climate is the cause of the negative impact? You are certain?

[ The person's appearance is... unusual, but not terribly far from the cowls and masks Hythlodaeus is used to. If anything, it's reassuring to see someone else who prefers to cover their face. Tali's inquisitiveness - and what he assumes is a penchant for analysis - is another pleasant similarity to his homeland as well.

Hythlodaeus nods and smiles, steepling his fingers thoughtfully. ]

Ah, of course. I believe the climate to be the reason as it is the biggest change compared to my home. Besides, such environmental characteristics as humidity - or lack thereof - and concentration of particular elements oft influence the appearance of living creatures.

[This is already a significant improvement over how most humans react to her inquisitive nature-- barring her friends, of course.

And that's assuming this person was human, not a safe assumption at all in this place.

Well reasoned. I unfortunately lack the necessary equipment here for a proper analysis of the air and water here, but from my observation it seems very similar to the kind of climate humans are used to living in.

How long have you been here? Prolonged exposure could also be a factor.

Professor Turo accidentally developed some manner of haircare product some time ago. I'll see if he has any left.
