[The video is of a rocky shoreline, under a grey autumn sky. A small handful of the demon horses can be seen grazing on washed up seaweed.]
[Davrin slowly lowers the camera back down, turning it to face himself. Both he and Assan the griffon, are perched on a couple rocks higher up. Out of immediate view of the horses.]
I know we're supposed to be gathering clippings from these things but... call me crazy.
[Assan lifts his head from where he'd had it balanced on his foreclaws, looking skeptical.]
- Not you. [Then back to the camera.] Anybody tried maybe... taming one of them?
[They're no halla, but maybe it'd be a good idea to have a horse around for land-based travel.]

[ And you did ask for it. He'd hate to disappoint. ]
A griffon wasn't crazy enough for you, huh? What's wrong with your feet, Warden?

[Said creature lifts his head, chattering at the camera. Are you talking about him???]
Plus he's not going to be big enough for years yet. We don't think, anyway.
You don't think a horse would come in handy?
no subject
[ Even if he grins at the sound of that chatter. ]
Sure. But that don't look like no normal horse. That looks like a lot more trouble than it's worth.
And 'handy' only works when you've got hands left to...steer?
[ Can we tell Varric doesn't do horses either? ]

[A chuckle of his own, reaching back to rub at Assan's ears.]
Could be handy to have an attack horse, though. If we can't ride it, maybe we can train it to go after trouble.
... "steer", Varric?

[ There's a roll of his eyes at the skepticism in Davrin's voice. ]
What about me strikes you as a person who knows what he's doing with horses? I had a sturdy pony in the Inquisition that got me most places but that was mostly pointing her in the right direction and letting her do the rest. Or hoping she was at least smart enough to follow the Inquisitor when things got dicey.

[It's plan B. Davrin still wants to try his luck on his own.]
I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt! Maybe there's unknown depths to the author and Inquisition member. Maybe he's a master horseman.
[Yeah he can't... keep the straight face. He grins, despite himself.] Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I have plenty of depth! And I've mastered a lot of things, but horses never needed to be one of them. That's not really a thing back in Kirkwall, anyway. City's too crowded [ -and Darktown too hungry- ] for beasts that size.

So if I get this thing accepting riders, you're not going to be in line? Not even to say you did it?
[... and he's going to ask Harding about that pony thing.]

And Lace would never tattle on him like that. ]
That's a really big 'if'. But I'm still quite content on my own two feet, thanks. I'll leave the reckless risks to you kids.

And if I can't manage it, at least we'll know. Save some poor random person a few missing fingers.
[It is at this point that Assan lifts his head, and gives Varric's image in the camera a look that clearly says, "Can you believe this?"]
