[Darin pulls back from the camera sitting at a drafting table in his home. However, instead of blueprints and sketches and diagrams, things you'd normally see on his drafting table and workstation, there's...an awful lot of textbooks. Darin reaches up and pulls the small pair of reading glasses from his face and pinches the bridge of his nose. No, he's not wearing them for show, he actually does wear reading glasses when he needs them.]

Okay, this is going to sound really really weird coming from me but...I guess I could use some help.

Does anyone understand how like...government works? Like, at all? Because it seems like a whole bunch of rules and guidelines that should be common sense until they aren't and the more I read, the more I feel like I've either understood this my entire life or I'm going crazy.

Plus? I never went to school so...anyone up for a spirited debate? Something? Anything? If I spend anymore time reading I think I might eat the next book.

My elder brother. The one from the other world has long since left, and the Mycroft from my world has thankfully never arrived.

[ He doesn't miss his brother at all. Really! ]

He did not hate the royals. He worked for them and thought I should dedicate myself to the same.

Not gonna lie and no offense? But that sounds really awful. Before I met Zelda I thought all royalty was self-serving and pompous. In my kingdom theyd been hoarding power because the people were sick of being stuck in an outdated caste system.

And you would be correct. My brother could be a pompous arse about it while I tried to argue for the people the established governing body kept failing. He would speak of the greater good, but I saw how those people suffered. Some of them were even working for the Crown under him.

If the system kept failing people why did your brother advocate for it? Was he trying to change it himself? I dont get it

What good does playing by their rules help? They wrote the book. If you want to help people you have to throw the book away

Again, it was the greater good and the big picture. I can't understand it myself. I've seen women turn to murder because they had no other way to escape their abuse. Following a lead for another case, I exposed the cruelty of an insane asylum that not only experimented on their patients but brainwashed and disposed of others. I would have thought he would be glad or more understanding of that last one, but he instead spoke of how I jeopardized one of the Crown's richest relationships.

[ There is a lot Sherlock and Mycroft do not see eye-to-eye on. For all that he argues with Mycroft, he doesn't want to think him as an evil, but when he says things like that, Sherlock can't understand him. ]

Oh SCREW that noise! Oh no the Crown needs to better vet who they do business with?? What a damn tragedy! People were getting hurt and used! How the hell do you not condemn that right from the start?!

I get it. Money talks. Its the surefire way to get what you want if you dont have physical or political power. I worked with the various trade guilds in my world Im not so naive as to think money doesnt have pull.

But at what point does your conscience kick in? At what point do you not see who youre advocating for and just get sick about it??

Given what happened with our mother, I can't understand his reaction. I certainly can't understand him if he knew what was happening there.
