[Video] Man New to Friends Seeks Decorating Advice

I... hope others are enjoying that game that seems to be popping up on the network a lot tonight.
[He doesn't have any interest in playing, but he's noticed it seems to be quite... popular.]
But, ah... If someone isn't too busy, might I trouble you for some recommendations on where to find furnishings that are considered comfortable? I've noticed that nothing here seems to match the style from my home... or any place I'm familiar with, really.
[And he did tell Lyney he would make an effort to have his living arrangements at least serviceable for a guest. Perhaps he might even try for two. Or three? Tables usually had four sides... Four sides, four chairs.]

I'd be more than happy to help. Interior design is part of my job, after all. Now...could you tell me what you were familiar with? What can't be found could be commissioned, if we have something to go off of.

The furnishings I know are all stone with metal accents, and the private quarters of researchers tend to be very sparse. A table and high-backed chairs and a rug beneath them. A bookcase. Perhaps a small table against the wall. A cupboard. Maybe a chest or a planter here or there. You'll not see a bed unless they invite you to sleep.
Overall, our people favor stone with metal inlays in copper and gold, geometric designs, and the incorporation of living flora into more than one type of structure. Elpis favors what you might consider to be red sandstone, with beige sandstone as its accent, though you will find pink sandstone now and then. Amaurot, white marble, accented with black marble. Blue crystalline glass is common in structures in Amaurot. Squared short seating and more delicate, barstool-looking stools can be found there. Benches are more abundant. There's more variety in furnishings and the designs tend to be more varied, incorporating more curves in the decorative inlays.
But... on the whole? Stone. There is a lot of stone, and nary a cushion to be seen, save for mayhap the elusive bed.
The furniture here is so... [He gestures with a hand.] So plush.

...Hmm. Well, stone tends to be pretty uncomfortable to us squishier beings. But sandstone...isn't uncommon in desert furniture, where wood and cloth is rare. I think in this world, though, it would be extraordinarily difficult to quarry most kinds of stone, especially marble...Some of the harder woods they use for ship hulls may get you the firmness that feels familiar to you.
As far as the windows, let me show you something.
[Kaveh carries his shellphone with him into another room in his house and then turns it to reveal a library, extraordinarily large for a private residence. A grand tree grows up from the center of it, but the real marvel is the stained glass windows--they're not quite the same as amaurotine windows, glowing in greens and golds, but the colors are still vibrant, and the swooping lines exceedingly elegant.]
This would be difficult to do unless you purchased a whole new home, but making lamps wouldn't be too difficult for me.

What is comfortable for... squishier beings?
I'm fine with just a rug on the floor and mayhap a blanket for the cold as far as our assigned dwellings go, but Lyney offered to bring me a treat of his own making, and I can't bear to have a guest and not a seat to offer them if they are tired.

'Tis how the observers in Elpis take naps at the Mourning Dew. A rug on the stone, underneath a canopy, aside the cascading waterfall of Lethe.

Diminished in size as we are, we look much like you here. Our spines curve in similar ways, and have the same basic function as yours. But our control over our bodies is... more.
Our means of obtaining energy, however, are obviously and vastly different... though that is not what you asked about.
