All jokes aside, that seems like overkill. Unless you've witnessed any legitimate explanation for the bounty?

No. Thus far it has kept to itself and grazed peacefully. Apart from a few skirmishes with local wildlife to maintain its territory, that is.

If it is as wild as any other horse, you may be thrown off.

[ And by 'thrown off' he can't say if that's by the usual horse standards or by literally being strong-armed off. ]

I know someone with some experience in taming horses. I think they'd be interested in giving it a try.

If it does not pose any threat, surely there could be some value in studying it rather than simply collecting a bounty.

It is also somewhat aggressive. Your friend is welcome to try and ride it but you will have to beat the bounty hunters.

I agree that I would rather study it than put it down immediately. Although I am fairly certain it is a chimera at this point.
