Ulpianus's distraction doesn't go as planned, and he briefly looks angry before shielding his eyes with his arm, trusting in his layers of clothes to protect him from the worst of the flames. Some of them still hit and he hisses in pain - even as they sizzle out, he can still feel the burning on his skin.
Clive no longer pinning him to the ice gives Ulpianus a bit more space to maneuver, though. He grasps his anchor and spins around, the almost balletic movement providing a nice counterpoint to the force with which he slashes across the wall of ice (enjoy the squealing of metal against hard ice, everyone). It's a way to both create a shower of icy shards (to hopefully negate some of Clive's flames) and shake the embers off himself. Facing Clive again, Ulpianus grasps the long chain of his anchor in his other hand, preparing for the man's next move. He's aware of Jill hovering over them; he can't tell why she doesn't attack yet - another point of concern. But for now he can focus on Clive. ]

In any other circumstance a fight like this would be considered unfair. However, this was no ordinary circumstance by any means. This character was a formattable one, so much like the raging firestorm Clive felt in the pit of his stomach, he too would burn even the foundation of the building down if it meant preserving Jill's safety. So unfortunately he's caught Clive on a very bad day.
He could sense the presence of Shiva safely nearby and that was all the know he needed in order to push forward with another roar, his eyes burning with intent.
The ice shards are thankfully quickly melted away with just another blast of the spitting fire from his hand (although the sound of anchor to ice did make him miss a few at first) as the one clenching hold of his sword is swung upward from its hanging position at his side towards the very chain separating it from Ulpianus' flesh. And he brings it down hard. ]
