And now what is this abomination? Judging by the rest of these comments and the MANTA board post about this, it would appear that they are related?

That is what the notice seems to imply. Although I have no idea how the original poster came to such a conclusion.

Nevertheless, it does seem that releasing the original creature is the best course of action. I plan to follow the pair and see if they are any clues leading to their makers.

I created a gaol for it and brought it over on the crew's ship. It rampaged inside the entire voyage. I had to maintain it constantly.

Before this, he was the one responsible for the invasion of ambystoma - axolotls, that is.

One of their children found its way on to our ship and he wished to keep it. That it continued to bite his fingers in spite of being fed did not deter him.

And so its parents came for you all to take its child back. I'd wondered how that came about. And I thought Cidolfus's knack for picking up strays was a bad habit, at least he is not bringing home murderous axolotl children and horses with hands for feet.

Did you ever figure out what was going on with it anyway? Why it is so aggressive and has those odd limbs?

Unfortunately not. It was with us for too short a time to reach any meaningful conclusions. My prevailing theory is that the arms' lingering, collective anima accumulated in the form of higher aggression.

What? Like some form of aether?

Not quite the same but I suppose, in practice, yes.

Anima relates to the physicality of the body whilst aether would be more closely aligned to the soul.

That is not something I have ever heard of.

What exactly does anima do?

It does not 'do' anything as such. Give me a moment to think.

[ Even for him it is somewhat of an obscure topic to explain compared to aether. The Garlean people are unique in their inability to wield aether.

Every man has a soul. This is a known fact. Anima is...shall we say, something like mankind's spirit? Which can be used even one lacks an ability to wield aether.

With enough of this spirit, one can overcome things that may otherwise feel impossible.

Something of the like. Most living creatures are not aggressive without cause but that one we caught was fairly relentless with it, even before being caught.

I can only hope this other one is not the same.

Well. It certainly looks like it might have all kinds of this dangerous "anima". I do hope that it finds what it is looking for, and that it is not you. Though I assume that they are not all that way, I will be staying away from all manner of horses for some time.
