Cid here.
Wanted to leave a quick note and thank you to everyone who helped test my little inventions last month. They should be finalized and ready for official public release next month, but as promised those who helped will receive theirs earlier once ready. Just let me know where to send them off or I can contact you for pick up later.
On that note, I wanted to inquire if anyone had any requests or suggestions as to what I, or any other inventor here, should work on. Whether it's improvements or some alternate version of something that already exists here, or perhaps something similar from your own world.
While I am working with magitech, I am more interested in electrical and mechanical engineering, and I'd rather stay away from weaponry unless it's more for defensive or nonlethal use. So anything of that nature will be more my type.
Always appreciated.

[ Make this a reality, Cid. She will love it forever. ]
I am absolutely willing to sacrifice my headphones for the cause.
Especially if it gets me new ones that fully work in this world.
no subject
So what's the problem with how they work now?
no subject
They aren't really compatible with anything found in this world. Mine should connect to things like my phone and network where music is usually stored. They're a version that purely relies on technology, so it's sort of been useless this whole time.
I figured since this world is one where we can combine magic and technology, maybe there's a way to make our own version of portable music headphones.
[ Does she sometimes wear them like there is music playing, but really she's just ignoring the world? Yes. ]
no subject
The latter does seem easier to try and adjust first since magic allows more to work with. But I may look into trying and work out something for the other as well. Never hurts to have both.

Anyway, I'll just drop it off at your workshop or your ship in the next few days, whichever I come closer to first.

>action;
[ Nimona will find the tall man the next day, walking up to him with a bounce in her step. ]
Greetings, Captain Brownbeard. 'Tis a wonderous day on the back of the mighty shelled beast.
[ Just don't ask, Cid. ]
no subject
[Just a slight frown.]
Could at least come up with something better.
no subject
[ She crosses her arms and taps a finger against her chin. ]
Captain Thunderpants. Captain Lightningsparkles. Captain Twinklestrikes.
no subject
All right, Bubblegum Brat, let's see these headphones of yours.
no subject
So this is how you turn it on, this controls how loud it is, this links it to my phone - not the shellphone. There's some kind of thing inside that lets you go to the next song by tapping it twice, but I've no idea how that works.
[ She points out all the bells and whistles. It's clearly very advanced, but as she said, this is technology only. ]
no subject
...Certainly a lot more complicated than I expected. So you just... Wear this to listen to the music from another device?
no subject
Yeah, your phone would have access to, sort of, a library of music. Well, phones could access a lot more than music, but that's another thing entirely. Headphones were designed so you could have portable music that you didn't have to really hold and wouldn't bother other people around you.
no subject
But you say the music can also be stored in here? [He taps the headphones as he walks over to his desk so he can sit down and start actually poking it.]
no subject
[ She follows him over. ] Yeah, it can only store a few songs. There's a little chip inside, but it doesn't have much data space.
[ Nimona's world is actually more technologically advanced than others. They have flying cars and giant laser cannons, and much more. ]
no subject
In my world, music could be "stored" by puncturing holes in a certain order that an orchestrion could read and play the notes. Bit hefty things, so imagining several songs being stored in this little thing is hard to believe. Though easier given the whole video and all that, I suppose.
[Still, he turns her headphones this way and that a bit before he finally pulls out a small screwdriver to start taking it apart.]
no subject
[ Nimona will just plop down next to him and watch him work. ]

Old school? As if I don't already feel my age sometimes...
[He knows his world isn't exactly "up there" but come on!!]
no subject
Don't worry, I was around before they had any kind of music that wasn't live. If you wanted music, you found a bard or played an instrument yourself.
no subject
[What are these wires...and what's this square thing they're all connected to? And this strange little box...
Cid hadn't really delved too much into the actual tech gadgets, wanting to read up on it before he took something apart. And thinking on that, he stands up to scan the nearby bookshelf before pulling out a book that may actually help in trying to identify the parts.
Hmm, oh, there we are...so that's what that is...fascinating.]

She'll start drawing in it while he's gets his research on for a while. Then rips a couple of pages out of the book, and tacks them to Cid's wall with... whatever sharp thing she can find. Even if it's a steak knife that she has to pull out of her own pocket.
On the first paper is a couple drawings of a sword, one looks perfectly normal. The other is the same sword, but the blade has spread apart, with something like electricity or fire blasting from the hilt portion (it's hard to say, her drawing skill is at the level of a kid).
On the second paper is a large cannon. It has a circling arrow to indicate that it has spin motion, with a single person at the safe end. This too is blasting electricity or fire
or ice, but everything is in red so. ]no subject
But Cid will only glance at her before looking up when she finally starts pinning those drawings up.
...]
This reminds me of when Mid would put up her drawings when she was a child—but I don't think you're trying to give me cute mementos.
[Slight arch of the brow as he looks at her.]
Trying to give me more ideas?
no subject
Can't say I remember ever giving a dad a cute memento drawing before. Is that something they like?
[ Parents? What are those? ]
Well, people around here seem to really like their swords, and we all do live on ships out here. You could probably make a lot of money off these. Just think!
You could freeze your enemy ships in the water, ensuring you get to the treasure first! Or shoot them with your sword from a distance without ever pulling out a gun.
