Wanted to leave a quick note and thank you to everyone who helped test my little inventions last month. They should be finalized and ready for official public release next month, but as promised those who helped will receive theirs earlier once ready. Just let me know where to send them off or I can contact you for pick up later.

On that note, I wanted to inquire if anyone had any requests or suggestions as to what I, or any other inventor here, should work on. Whether it's improvements or some alternate version of something that already exists here, or perhaps something similar from your own world.

While I am working with magitech, I am more interested in electrical and mechanical engineering, and I'd rather stay away from weaponry unless it's more for defensive or nonlethal use. So anything of that nature will be more my type.

During the month before last, when the tides of rifts brought more people to this world. This venerable one spoke with a being that looked to be made of stone who mentioned a 'dive suit'. For the purposes of exploring the deepest depths. This venerable one has obtained a bubble charm and it lasts for about two of this world's hours. The dive suit sounds as if it serves a similar purpose. But may not require magic to function.

Would you you be able to create or improve on one such that it could maintain air for a full day or longer?

Think I could meet this person? Would be easier if I could see what's already around, but I might be able to figure something out.

[While they had spent some time together on Avaleci, Daqiang had not made an effort to learn his name nor had it come up. He would have to remember to seek it out when next they spoke.]

They are rather unique in appearance, however. As tall as any mortal, but skin and carapace like stone. Too heavy to swim.

Portable music devices that you can wear on your head! Ooo, I have my headphones with me, so I could totally show you how it's supposed to work, and you can even take it apart if you need to.

I've heard about such things at least once. If I can take it apart and figure out how it all works then I might be able to come up with something.

[At the very least he could get an idea, design some blueprints, and then have someone with the proper skills to try and make it.]

Yeah, I got an idea! My stock'a Saibamen is limited an' I could use a couple'a spares. You think you could figure out the formula to grow some more?

You'll have to first tell me what "Saibamen" is.

If we're looking more into mechanical engineering, it might be worth looking into mechanical methods for climate control on the ships, or even in building. It might also be worth having ways of mechanically generating power without any magic--redundancy is key to a stable system.

I think most everything else I've been thinking about is maybe a little...far fetched for now.

Not a bad idea, especially if we ever enter an area that could have some negative effect on magic, even negate it.

But I'd still be curious as to what your "far fetched" ideas may be. Might inspire something else.

...Well, if you insist. I had two lines of thought. One is that for all the magitech and mechanical research, I feel as though research could be focused into medical technology. It doesn't even need to be magictech based--I've heard most prosthetics need to be able to function totally analogue in case of accidents. Even just smaller pieces of adaptive technology could do a lot of good here.

The other idea is...ah. I don't know it is possible without magitech of some kind. But when I was looking into materials to make new gliders, I...did start to wonder if they could be scaled up. To the size of a ship.

Emet-Selch and I were looking into making a simple propellor engine last month, but I got a bit busy. Let me share with you what schematics we do have. Fitting an appropriate power source to it is probably the biggest hurdle to making it.

I also appreciate how you're not interested in developing weapons. That's wonderful.

If it's engines, then I have some experience in designing one successfully at least. I remember trying to come up with proper power as well as containing it without blowing the shell was an issue, so that's something to bear in mind for yours as well.

But I see you feel similar. While I recognize there are legitimate places for them and will likely have to work on some for our ship, never hurts to work on some alternatives.

[It's one thing if it's for himself and his crew, but an another entirely if it was for public use. He'll just pass on that, especially when he knows that's what his daughter would have wanted.]

I've restored engines before, but I haven't built them from scratch. Emet-Selch mentioned that another difficult part of designing one was finding material that could take both the friction and the heat of the machine. Once we find suitable material, I'm sure it'll be easier, but we're still left with the issue of power.

In my world, sometimes dynamos are connected via magical, non-physical circuits which eliminate the sheer, and they are powered by magicite. The fire crystals of that mountain provide some power. Have you tried using those at all?

Airships are the first thing to come to mind. It would make transport from hub cities quicker. Though I am not entirely sure if it could be done in the same manner I know. It would require wind-aspected crystals.

Truthfully, I miss coffee brewers.

Seems you and others are finding our life at sea a bit too dull.

[Honestly he's amused. First Kaveh, then Rem with the propeller engine, now G'raha talking airships.]

But what's this about a coffee brewer?

On the contrary. I enjoy life at sea quite a bit.

However, I do think it would be convenient. Nothing more and nothing less.

The people of the Crystarium crafted a rather ingenious device that brewed the perfect cup of coffee.

what about transportation when we are on land? there were these goblin carts back home that looked really fun!

I did enjoy driving the little cart on that toy island a while back, so I imagine a more life-sized version should be doable.

Any idea how those goblin carts worked?

Right? It looks fun! I don't know how they work, I haven't ridden one myself back home but it still looks pretty simple? I don't think it seems too complicated to put together?

There are a few projects I am working on myself, but my mind always goes to devices that could be rather helpful to everyday life.

Such as portable lamps that are electric and thus last longer than a fire torch or lamp some may rely on. They could even be later developed to be larger and work as lights on ships at night when there may be no natural source due to cloudy weather.

Easy to turn on and off. Simple perhaps, but it could make life just that smallest bit easier.

Not a bad idea, really, and it's something many would be able to use like you said. I know the magitech is heavily used here and seems reliable, but having non-magic alternatives would be better.

What other projects are you working on, if you don't mind my asking? Don't want to overlap and all.

I couldn't agree more, in all honesty. Having that alternative won't hurt, and could do better than some magic may in an emergency situation.

Well, currently I am working with two others on barrier proto-types as one project that we're asking people to test by doing their best to break through or simply destroy it. I more recently finished another that had more to do with the Substitute and Poke Dolls if you saw the requested help in the testing of those, or the finished product now more widely available.

I'm also looking into the various flora and fauna of this world to gain a better understanding of how magic and nature function together here.
