Wanted to leave a quick note and thank you to everyone who helped test my little inventions last month. They should be finalized and ready for official public release next month, but as promised those who helped will receive theirs earlier once ready. Just let me know where to send them off or I can contact you for pick up later.

On that note, I wanted to inquire if anyone had any requests or suggestions as to what I, or any other inventor here, should work on. Whether it's improvements or some alternate version of something that already exists here, or perhaps something similar from your own world.

While I am working with magitech, I am more interested in electrical and mechanical engineering, and I'd rather stay away from weaponry unless it's more for defensive or nonlethal use. So anything of that nature will be more my type.

I've restored engines before, but I haven't built them from scratch. Emet-Selch mentioned that another difficult part of designing one was finding material that could take both the friction and the heat of the machine. Once we find suitable material, I'm sure it'll be easier, but we're still left with the issue of power.

In my world, sometimes dynamos are connected via magical, non-physical circuits which eliminate the sheer, and they are powered by magicite. The fire crystals of that mountain provide some power. Have you tried using those at all?

Sounds very similar to our problem, but we managed to come with a solution, though had a bit of a cheat with the Fallen ruins. And the fire crystals may be an option, however that might make us too reliant on one source and not so sure how readily available they are. Still, never hurts to try, see how it works, and see if can't come up with something similar.

Regardless, a better topic to talk about in person if you two won't mind another head poking at it.

Are you thinking we should focus on designing an engine to be compatible with many different types of power sources? Going big! \(๑•́o•̀๑)/

You're welcome over any time, I'm sure, but let me let Emet-Selch know first. [ And actually, Cid might learn more from Emet-- he's the one far more knowledgeable at this. Rem just works with him in exchange for learning. ]

Out of curiosity, what did the Fallen use to power their machines in your world? In Orience, we use magicite as I mentioned, but the restored ancient airship used a mysterious source that seemed self-sustaining. ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ None of us knew what it what it was, though.

Just let me know, I've met Emet-Selch a few times so we're at least somewhat familiar with each other.

As for your question, I wish I knew. But what Mid and I figured out was using burning mythril to generate heat to produce a powerful motive force. Of course, that heat was a bit tricky to deal with and control, which is why we needed other materials for the shielding and plating to properly contain it without it either exploding the engine itself or burning the ship the engine was attached to.

[ As for the thermal problem of an engine... it seems that even if they find a good powersource, they might still run into a few problems. ] Wish I could be more helpful, but even I don't know what kind of metal the ancient airship used for its protective plating. But I do know it was sophisticated. Each turbine had its own heat sink chamber, too. There was probably something similar for te engine you were building too, I'm guessing?

But for whatever engine we build here, it doesn't have to be that sophisticated like either that ancient vessel or that of the Fallen's. A lower-output powersource means we need only strong enough metal for an engine that can withstand that particular powersource. I think it's possible if we all work together. (。^_・)ノ

Would also depend on what it is you want to stick that engine on for. Were you actually planning on putting it on a ship or something else?

Aye, wind can be quite the fickle mistress. Same reason I designed the mythril engines in my world.

But something smaller... Given the number of people who have experience and knowledge, this should be doable. Just a matter of finding those willing.

Making an engine would be the best thing for all of us. It would expand our ability to explore! [ In her world, it also opened up a slew of new ways to exercise war, but... c'mon. There's no war here! Just the occasional skirmish, usually committed by the corsairs. ]

I'm only learning, but want to contribute in any way I can. I'd like to learn from your expertise, too.

Don't ask me exactly how they work, though. But it would be helpful for all the physicians and healers to have. [ And for those who have a chronic cough of doom. Like herself.

As soon as she types and sends that, though, she realizes how that technology, too, may be even further beyond that of making an engine. So, she sends another text instead: ] What about you? Ever wanted to work on something novel that you couldn't in your world?

You'll have to tell me what an X-ray is at least.

But to your other question, besides an airship... I suppose there were a few things I thought about. Nothing so grand. Flying in the skies was already a large enough dream among everything else I had to deal with. So my thoughts usually went towards the practical, of how to make things work without needing magic.

They're pictures that see through almost everything except metals, so if you take one of someone, it'll show their skeleton on a film! It uses something called "radiation", but I don't know how beyond that.

That's a grand dream. Is magic unreliable in your world?

[Well that's. Huh. Tarja would have definitely loved that kind of technology, so he actually jots it down in his journal.]

I'll have to look into it as that would be useful indeed.

And no. While in some ways it can make certain tasks easier and provide certain luxuries, it comes at a cost that is not worth paying. Not to mention it is not an unlimited resource, and should the source of magic, aether, not exist, then it cannot be used.

[ Oh R I G H T their magic takes from their lives. ] In that case, yes, that's a great reason to move away from it. I don't suppose people will give up so easily on their luxuries, will they? But it's worth the fight.

Unfortunately, not when it's so ingrained into their lives. But there is hope, so I just leave my faith in that.
