TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE

There have been a lot of riftfarers arriving lately. It seems like there have been more arriving than usual. So many different kinds of people from different kinds of worlds with stories to tell and experiences to give.

A little game has appeared on the shellphone network in hopes of getting to know just a little more about these otherworlders. You might find it on your shellphone as you’re scrolling through one day.

Tell the world two truths and one lie about yourself. And let others try and decipher which of the three is your lie. If they can guess right, perhaps you’ve been able to make a new acquaintance. Or in the least learn more about someone from another walk of life.

[Uuuuuuuuuuuhh...]

Is it three?

[Like, she only knows it's not the first from experience and the other two seem equally likely.]

It's not three.

[See Kaveh he is successfully stumping people!! Take that!!]

[She was shootin' blind.]

You mean you don't tear through every book as soon as you get it?
indispensable: (debate.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-06 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Shhh let him believe he is succeeding.]

Some books need more time than others.

Which one's taking up your time now?
indispensable: (documentation.)

Local almanacs. There have been multiple iterations of them in the last several years, with a compelling amount of new information added each time.

[Sorry Dehya you're starting to activate Nerd Talk.]

[That is extremely nerdy. But, useful.]

Wouldn't it be easier to just read the most recent one with all the added information?
indispensable: (perusing.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-07 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's not the information itself that I am after. The difference between each almanac helps me see what major developments have transpired in between, and in turn allows me to form a comprehensive timeline with things that might be of interest.

[He has been very nerdy it is his way of coping.]

Wouldn't that be the kind of thing be in a history book, too? [Is it normal for Akademiya scholars to choose the path of most resistance surely there has to be history books.]
indispensable: (premonition.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-07 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That'd require the aforementioned history books to actually be congruent with each other.

[Which, they mostly are. But the materials from each faction tend to be heavily skewered towards their own, and there isn't much in terms of 'neutrality', which makes it hard to establish a functional timeline that isn't wholly influenced by a singular party. It certainly hasn't stopped Alhaitham from trying, though.]

You mean they're not?
indispensable: (premonition.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-08 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Not enough to chart out a cohesive timeline that wouldn't be heavily eschewed to one side or the other.

[Doesn't help that Elah is the only place that has an actual library... the other places are much more lax and loose and don't have much in the way of actual documentation.]

Yeah, that sounds familiar. [Although the rainforest side has had more resources to get the final say in people's stories.]
indispensable: (envisage.)

[...that particular similarity may have only just occurred to him upon seeing Dehya's response. Whoops.]

Secondary and alternate sources of information are going to be the best way for now until something else crops up.

Found anything about our situation? Everyone when I arrived just seemed to accept it happens. Guess they don't mind the extra labor.

I've noted several things.

While the phenomenon of riftfarers isn't new to them now, it seems to have only started about five years ago. Long enough that people have come to accept it, but not so long that there'll be much information available at large beyond the basics that we are already aware of.

There is not much in terms of actual confirmation about the supposed artifact that brought us all here, but people have apparently been able to find their way back voluntarily, instead of being prey to the random nature of the rifts.

[personal profile] legendofthelion 2024-03-10 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
They'd be gone now, right? Guess they can't give us any hints how that getting back on purpose works.

But people sometimes get dragged back here, don't they?
indispensable: (paraphrase.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-10 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
If they have, I haven't found any proper accounts that detail such instances, but I would not be surprised if something like that has occurred.

[He could go and ask the riftfarers who have decided to settle here, but... 'Alhaitham' and 'asking nicely' are two things that don't tend to go hand in hand very often. It's maybe earned him the ire of a few NPCs more than once.]

Kaveh also mentioned something about

time

I didn't really get it but these are things people'd only know if someone who went through going home came back. Or if someone else told their story but that'd be hard to prove.
indispensable: (intuition.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-11 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Time can be... relative, I think, between us. There is no difference between the time Kaveh and I 'left' Teyvat, yet our arrival was set apart by two months.

[And he doesn't know about the rest of you guys but it is certainly something to note. Whether or not that actually means anything though is a different conversation entirely.]

But yes, you're right. There is no way to know for sure unless somebody who has returned comes back, but I doubt that's something that will happen anytime soon.
legendofthelion: (☀︎ 014)

[personal profile] legendofthelion 2024-03-13 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He mentioned that. So to your, it war like you only saw him a minute before you got here?
indispensable: (argument.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-14 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
More or less. An hour, at most, but hardly anything more than that.

[He was lowkey real weirded out when he met Kaveh here and realized that there was a two month difference that's for sure.]
legendofthelion: (☀︎ 033)

[personal profile] legendofthelion 2024-03-17 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[And now she's weirded out.]

I don't even want to think about how that works. But I guess we won't be missing?
indispensable: (patience.)

[personal profile] indispensable 2024-03-17 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. There's no real way to know unless one of us happens to have made such a trip.

[And as far as he is aware that hasn't been the case.]
