TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE

There have been a lot of riftfarers arriving lately. It seems like there have been more arriving than usual. So many different kinds of people from different kinds of worlds with stories to tell and experiences to give.

A little game has appeared on the shellphone network in hopes of getting to know just a little more about these otherworlders. You might find it on your shellphone as you’re scrolling through one day.

Tell the world two truths and one lie about yourself. And let others try and decipher which of the three is your lie. If they can guess right, perhaps you’ve been able to make a new acquaintance. Or in the least learn more about someone from another walk of life.

Not on purpose but when you're out in the desert it can get everywhere. Especially if you get caught when a sandstorm starts.

Figured as much! It basically confirmed the first one as true since you wouldn't bring up bounty work and pay if you weren't already one. You don't hear a lot about mercs doing jobs just for the heck of it though.

The work's not all bad, but for a lot of them there's not really anything else.

Can't argue with you there. Sometimes work's just work and you gotta go with what you've given.

Growing up, me and Pop were traveling the world for training purposes. Things like supplies and food and all that cost money, and we couldn't just rely on borrowing [aka stealing] stuff all the time. So occasionally I've taken some odd jobs here and there to temporarily put some money on the table. Just some manual labor and part-time stuff. They were small jobs that paid me enough to get by.

[All things, she thinks, that are very familiar. A nomadic lifestyle. Which would explain why he finds just as much trouble as any mercenary or adventure trekking across forests and deserts.]

What were you training for?

It wasn't for anything big or drastic if that's what you're thinking. I'm a martial artist. My old man wanted to get me a headstart on my training, so he took me on a training journey with him.

So that's where you learned to fight like that. How far in training are you?

[catsgothistongue]

About sixteen years? Pretty much all my life, yeah.

[She gets it, she's been with the Eremites as long as she remembers. The idea of being anything but a mercenary wasn't even a thought.]

I'd say I'm pretty good at it. I know plenty of styles, techniques, been through all kinds of training, all the usual stuff.

[His idea of 'usual stuff' might greatly differ from most ordinary people.]

What about when your training's done? Or is it one of those lifelong things that you never really finish?

The latter. The style I follow is all about adaptation and growing, so I'm always trying to learn new techniques and ways to improve my martial arts.

I get it. It just be important for you to stick with it this long.

It is. If I gave up on it at any point, everything I've worked for would just be for nothing.
