[You may have seen this very loud blue-haired man around. He's new, but he's hard to miss considering his size and bombastic nature. Right now, he's puttering around some shops on Eltrut...specifically any shops that offer custom goods. He's clearly assessing quality.]

Still figuring out how to use this damn thing...is it on?

[He stops a random passerby to inquire and...yes! They confirm that his video is sending! The hurry along their way because who just asks random strangers things? Weirdos, that's who.]

Alright! So, I've been around for a month or so and I think I've got my sea legs well enough to take the plunge here. For those of you who don't know, name's Darin Altway and I just happen to be a Master Blacksmith! What does that mean for you? Well, if you need tools or gear, then I'm your man! And trust me, my work is affordable and of the utmost quality. Even better news, I come from a port town so I know my way around a ship! So if you need something for your ships that those around here just can't provide...

[He leans in towards the camera conspiratorially.]

And from what I'm seeing...that's a lot...

You should totally hire me! My goal is to open up my own forge somewhere so I gotta get striking the iron while it's hot!

Also, if you've got the scoop on where to find some quality, rare materials and need someone to help you gather them, I'm your man!

Oh knives I can do easy. Now, are you looking for something of the throwing sort? Hunting? Utility? Skinning? Boning? Because I'd recommend different blades for each and the balancing is important if you want it for combat or you want to throw it with any form of accuracy.

a variety actually. some people might prefer guns but knives have always suited my purposes better.

[ like stabbing someone in the back nbd ]

Man don't get me started on firearms. I can see the appeal and I've worked on parts for them but they just seem to lack finesse to me.

there are things that only firearms can achieve, so a good tactician will never dismiss them entirely but for the finer things...knives.

Just Darin is fine. Never really was was for formalities.

So, it sounds like you've got a lot of experience with knives. I'd want to meet you before I started anything, of course. I don't mass produce anything. All of my gear is custom tailored to the individual! I'd want a good look at your hands and see how you handle a knife to get a good idea of what would suit you best.

[ fyodor doesn't really like meeting people but he knows darin is right about makes for better blades, and he'd quite like to have a variety at hand. ]

Sure! I'll be puttering around. I've got bright blue hair so, you can't really miss me.

[Helps that he's 6'3" and built like a rock wall but the hair is the best indicator he can think of.]

[Darin's true to his word. He's going to hang out at the docks fishing because he sure doesn't have a lot of other things to do.]

[Sure enough, there's a large, muscular man sitting on the edge of the pier with a rod in hand idly kicking his legs while he hums nonsense to himself.]

[ well. this man is not easily missed and it's not the bright blue hair that catches fyodor's attention--but the fact he's so built. ]

[Darin tilts his head to glance over his shoulder.]

Hm? What's up? Can I help you?

[ this man is tall. fyodor is not short by any means but, why is it that here everyone seems to be taller?? ] We spoke before about knives. I'm Dostoevsky.

Oh!

[Darin leaps to his feet, almost falling off of the pier in the process and sets his rod down. He holds out a hand in greeting.]

My bad, it's nice to meet you Dostoevsky! I appreciate you coming out to meet me.

I like to meet clients and get a feel for them so I can best make what they need, you know?

[ oh that's a lot of energy, fyodor hesitates for a moment and then reaches out and shakes the offered hand. ]

Yes, I do understand that. But in this strange world, meeting up is not always something I want to do without being more certain as to who I am meeting and why.

[ he's paranoid. ]

Trust me, I get it. And let me thank you for trusting me enough to come out and meet me.

[Darin's grip is firm but not painful, as if he's taking careful consideration of his strength compared to others. His hands are calloused; it's clear he's spent most of his life doing the work that's earned him the title of Master.]

It's kind of important for me if I'm going to make any tools or equipment for someone. I need to see how they carry themselves, their overall body type, things like that. I want my gear to feel like extensions of the client rather than just a tool or weapon.

[ trust is a funny word. after all, he knows he doesn't trust anyone but here--there is no choice, is here?

besides, this man, darin could be useful if he can craft weapons and looks like he could break significant things in two with ease. fyodor has always liked to surround himself with helpful individuals due to his own lack of physical prowess. ]

I completely understand, and that is what I'm looking for in this case.

So...for starters, why don't you tell me about your experience? How long have you used knives, how you use them? Things of that nature.

Honestly any little bit of information you're willing to tell me could help me make the best knives for you.

[ oh great, time to lie like the lying liar he is. but it's less of a personal thing, he simply doesn't want to explain some things, so he omits. ]

I am used to scalpels, as you can tell by my hands and such, I lack the strength to do much except defend myself in close combat.

So, you want something precise and balanced. Nothing like a hunting knife. You'd probably do better with a dirk or something slender and easy to wield. Something that doesn't take a tremendous amount of strength in order for it to cut, yeah?

[Darin puts a hand to his chin in thought. Dirks and daggers of that ilk were easy enough to forge.]

There's also the matter of how you'd carry it. I've made daggers and knives small enough to be concealed. Some people just feel better being armed but not advertising themselves as such. Is that something you'd be interested in?

Yes, I was hoping for a variety of blades. Some to be concealed and others to be readily available, depending on what is needed.

They would need proper sheathes as well, especially if I am to carry them comfortably.

[ yes, he's been thinking about this ever since darin introduced himself. sorry not sorry. ]

That shouldn't be an issue. I've worked with enough leather to make some basic holsters and sheathes. The type depends on where you'd be carrying them and concealing them. Any ideas on how you'd want to be strapped?

[From a pouch on his belt, Darin pulls out a small, well-worn notebook and pencil that's been worn down to basically a nub and starts jotting down some notes.]
