[You may have seen this very loud blue-haired man around. He's new, but he's hard to miss considering his size and bombastic nature. Right now, he's puttering around some shops on Eltrut...specifically any shops that offer custom goods. He's clearly assessing quality.]

Still figuring out how to use this damn thing...is it on?

[He stops a random passerby to inquire and...yes! They confirm that his video is sending! The hurry along their way because who just asks random strangers things? Weirdos, that's who.]

Alright! So, I've been around for a month or so and I think I've got my sea legs well enough to take the plunge here. For those of you who don't know, name's Darin Altway and I just happen to be a Master Blacksmith! What does that mean for you? Well, if you need tools or gear, then I'm your man! And trust me, my work is affordable and of the utmost quality. Even better news, I come from a port town so I know my way around a ship! So if you need something for your ships that those around here just can't provide...

[He leans in towards the camera conspiratorially.]

And from what I'm seeing...that's a lot...

You should totally hire me! My goal is to open up my own forge somewhere so I gotta get striking the iron while it's hot!

Also, if you've got the scoop on where to find some quality, rare materials and need someone to help you gather them, I'm your man!

So...this is literally the only set of clothes you own.

Man, I can see how that'd be a problem.

[Darin starts to circle around Garrus as if he were sizing him up. In reality, he's getting a better look at how Garrus stands. How he moves, shifts his weight. This hard suit was definitely more advanced than what he's used to doing...but that didn't mean it was above his skill.]

Interesting...

So, the good news is, I can probably come up with some patchwork repairs. But if you want my expert opinion? Eventually repairs will only take you so far. Think of it like a ship. Sooner or later, the bones of that thing will succumb to the wear and tear.

And, let's be honest, you'd probably be a lot happier with more than one pair of pants.

[His head keeps swiveling. To face the human walking circles around him. Arms folded. It's almost instinct, keeping track like this. Granted, he's not expecting an attack here, but he really feels like he has to.]

If I wanted patchwork forever, I'd look for a quarian. [Somewhere, Tali is picking up her shotgun.] I know it won't hold forever. That can happen down the street. ["road".] Right now, I just need it to stop stabbing me in the shin.

[One leg of the suit is, in fact, dented.] But I won't say no to more pants.

[Darin laughs and claps Garrus on the back.]

Yeah, dented armor sucks and it's majorly uncomfortable. That's why I don't really use it myself except for these bracers. [He holds up a forearm to show a simple but well-crafted bracer that seems to both support and reinforce his forearm.]

You're gonna have to tell me everything you know about this hard suit though because I've seriously never seen anything like it. I could probably learn more from this than I have in years under my old master!

That'd be nice. But in my line of work, you kind of need more. Unless the enemy really has a problem with forearms.

[If only the Reapers were that specific.]

I can try. I know my own specs, but I'm no expert. If we're talking rifles, that's another thing entirely.

[The bracers do a little more for Darin than conventional armor, but explaining that would involve potentially blowing the lid off of his abilities.]

You don't have to be. Just basic specs, things you do for maintenance, any little thing you can tell me would be a huge help.

...You specialize in firearms?

Right now? Fight a war. Pretty much everyone is, right now.

[Fight or die is the mantra. And, honestly, it's mostly fight and die.]

Basic specs I can do. Maintenance, calibrations... you got it. [Hilarious.] And yeah. Distance rifles, specifically.

[He...looks around. Did Garrus mean here? Was there a war here?]

W-Well, either way, if you can give me the basics, I think I can make something work. Honestly, it'll give me reason to really see what this place has as far as raw materials. There's this stuff called "magitech" I'm eager to look into.

Oh, I've got a notebook I always keep on me. I just need a place to work at the moment.

Maybe I could persuade one of the smiths here to let me use his forge...

[He rubs at the scarred side of his face, thoughtfully.]

Guess there's no help wanted ads up anywhere?

Hrm...well, the only forge I've ever worked in was my Old Man's...but screw it, at this point, I'll take anything.

There's bound to be someone on Eltrut who could use another pair of hands at their place.

That feels like the mantra for half of this place. "Screw it, let's make it work."

[At least, in his opinion.]

And hey, they see what you do, it'll be easier to get your own setup.

Hey, what can I say? I'm adaptable. Have to be, really. Especially here.

Trust me, they see what I can do, they won't want to let me go.

[It's not a bad thing. It's actually one of the more flattering human stereotypes out there.]
