[open] a book club 📚

Subject: An ordinary book club.
Warnings: tba.

[Due to the Garuda Incident, this post is coming from a very bedridden Joshua who is recovering from some bad injuries. So, he’s bored and desperately running out of books to read.]

Good afternoon,

It seems I've found myself with a surplus of free time this month, and with that realization comes the stark truth—I've exhausted my reading list.

So, I had an idea. Why not extend an invitation to others who might be interested in joining the book club that Tifa and I have been enjoying? Every few weeks, we gather to exchange ideas and thoughts on the current book we're reading, and it's led to some wonderful discussions.

While our tastes have leaned toward adventure and romance novels thus far, I'm open to exploring books from other genres to diversify our collection. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a few of the books we've read so far:

"The Swashbuckling Misadventures of Captain Bumblebeard"
"Enchanted Hearts and Dragon Flames"
"Spells and Sword Swells"
"Quest for the Heartstone: A Tale of Love and Sorcery"
"Siren's Song: A Pirate's Passionate Plunder"
"That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted A Love Potion At A Werewolf"

Although, I’m still not entirely certain what “yeeted” means. I only assume it means, “to throw”?

If you might be interested in joining in on our next reading, please do. As well as I’m taking suggestions for more books that the group might enjoy.

Sincerely,
Joshua.

That book is wrong. The proper past tense conjugation for yeet is 'yote'. I will not stand for yote erasure!!

...I'm sure Alhaitham's going to have many opinions about the conjugation of the term 'yeet', but I've got nothing.

I'd be interested in joining, and he will be joining us no matter his protests, but I'm afraid I don't have any recommendations offhand.

Would that make someone who is thrown 'yeeten'...?

Anyway, might check out the book club if that's a thing. I don't got any books to give, and any I did have are back home in my world.

Oh? This sounds like fun~! I have a growing collection of interesting mystery novels, if that's something you'd be interested in. :3

Yes, of course~!

Though I should warn you, the subject matter isn't always for the faint of heart. I'll do my very best to pick out those that are easier to digest for people new to the genre, though I still can't promise they're for everyone.

That makes two of us.

Haven't really been checking out the books here, but hey, long as I don't get saddled with reading some soppy love story or romance novel, I'm fine with just about any book you got.

I know there's the big library on the Elah, but I think that's mostly, like, really old books. I tried looking at some of them and they were just really dusty and didn't make a lot of sense.

I'd kinda be interested in reading some adventure books though.

Let me get this straight, you're on a sea adventure with "pirates" and dragons, and all kinds of other fun things to do, and one of your activities of choice is to read?

I love reading! Do you read out loud to each other?

When will you get together again, and where?

I think I'll wait until the movies come out on the books.

But also, do you really need a book to see new perspectives with all these different people around? You could hear about their life stories and that would be like reading a book.

By the way, you got it right on what "yeet" means. People do use "yote" for the past tense, but it's a slang word so honestly, it's whatever people want to make up at the time.

This sounds wonderful! I'm always the one who used to read out loud to my friends, then they'd have to go. It would be nice to have people to talk about the books with.

That would be. Just let me know the next time you decide to meet and I'll be there. Oh, you can call me Orchid.

......It doesn't sound like you read nonfiction much, though he just rattled off about a dozen titles.

Really? Actually, let me try something then--

[There's a click.]

Here, he should be able to hear you now...

[Hello Joshua, have a grunt from a deeply disgruntled man.]

The title of the last book in your list is grammatically wrong. The proper past tense conjugation for yeet is 'yote'.

[Look he is lying down and can't read the other replies in Joshua's post. Sorry Stelle.]

I've a few novels which I acquired for character studies. It might be of interest to this group.

[ It's not like he's going to read a romance book multiple times.... His notes on the books will suffice for any future review should he need any. ]

Not my thing. It just isn't something a guy should read in his free time. They're all the same plot anyway. "Girl or boy meets boy or girl, girl/boy falls for boy/girl, conflict or love triangle arises, happy end for all or one or both dies, the end."

[... At least, that's how the story ended in the one book he caught Kasumi reading one time.]
