[open] a book club 📚

Subject: An ordinary book club.

[Due to the Garuda Incident, this post is coming from a very bedridden Joshua who is recovering from some bad injuries. So, he’s bored and desperately running out of books to read.]
Good afternoon,
It seems I've found myself with a surplus of free time this month, and with that realization comes the stark truth—I've exhausted my reading list.
So, I had an idea. Why not extend an invitation to others who might be interested in joining the book club that Tifa and I have been enjoying? Every few weeks, we gather to exchange ideas and thoughts on the current book we're reading, and it's led to some wonderful discussions.
While our tastes have leaned toward adventure and romance novels thus far, I'm open to exploring books from other genres to diversify our collection. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Here are a few of the books we've read so far:
"The Swashbuckling Misadventures of Captain Bumblebeard"
"Enchanted Hearts and Dragon Flames"
"Spells and Sword Swells"
"Quest for the Heartstone: A Tale of Love and Sorcery"
"Siren's Song: A Pirate's Passionate Plunder"
"That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted A Love Potion At A Werewolf"
Although, I’m still not entirely certain what “yeeted” means. I only assume it means, “to throw”?
If you might be interested in joining in on our next reading, please do. As well as I’m taking suggestions for more books that the group might enjoy.
Sincerely,
Joshua.

There's something special about the magic of escaping into a book. And seeing new perspectives that might not be your own.
no subject
But also, do you really need a book to see new perspectives with all these different people around? You could hear about their life stories and that would be like reading a book.
By the way, you got it right on what "yeet" means. People do use "yote" for the past tense, but it's a slang word so honestly, it's whatever people want to make up at the time.

While you're not wrong... It isn't always ideal to ask someone about their life. A story makes for a story and puts it together in a creative way. Also. I'm currently bedridden due to some injuries so I would like the chance to escape into a book. I'm sure there are a lot other of instances just like that for others.
Thank you for clarifying that... I find it a new challenge to remember all these "slang" words.

That's true, but there's a lot of us now, there's probably someone willing to share. And hey, the phones make it easy to reach out and talk to people even if you are bedridden.
If you ever have any other slang words you don't know, you can ask me. I feel as if I'm probably from one of those worlds where slang's pretty popular and common.

And if that's the case... Will you tell me a little about your life's perspective? You seem quite interesting and worldly, after all.
no subject
Sure! Let's see. When I was a tiny tot - that's just a fun way of saying child - the world was simple. We didn't have much in the way of technology, not even things like the shellphone. Life was peaceful, people farmed, they explored the world, they were comfortable.
The appearance of a monster changed everything. A heroine rose from that simple life to slay it, people built a statue of her - and a city around the statue, and walls around the city. The Institute trained knights to fight any other monsters that might appear. They became more advanced.
They had things like phones and movies, but there's so much more. Flying carts, weapons that shoot hot plasma-like projectiles - some bigger than a ship's cannons, electric nets, information that could be found or posted at the tips of their finger where ever they were. People would capture their lives or work in movie form so that they could post it to the network and get "famous".
Yeah, they really did a lot of advancing in the last thousand years. "Metal" is not just a word for earthly substances, it's also a type of music and can be used like "awesome" or "amazing".

Now, tell me how it would feel if your story were to be written in a book or "movie"? I think that would be quite the feat.
no subject
Hm, my story? I think it would be awesome at times but a lot of sad.

All I meant to say is that our stories written on the page can greatly impact others and our outstanding in how we see those perspectives. Nothing is quite like getting lost in someone else's story in the way that they want it told.

I still feel I'd rather hear them tell the story, especially if it's a personal one. You get to see so much more than just reading from a book. Plus, think of the cliffhangers if they only give you part of it at a time because they have to go do something!
[ Then she suddenly switches to voice and clears her throat. ]
"There once was a girl who tried to become the sidekick of a villain, even though he claimed he just wanted to prove he was framed. He insisted that the knights would listen to him, for he had grown up training alongside them. It didn't matter that he wasn't of noble birth like them, he wanted to protect the kingdom as much as they did. The dark knight went, despite the logical protest of his sidekick, and ended up in prison. He tried to plead his innocence, but it fell on deaf ears.
Little did he know, his not-yet-hired sidekick was sneaking into the dungeon."
See? Cliff hanger!

I think I'm starting to understand your point. You have a way with your words. I can rightfully say that I feel as if I'm hanging from a cliff. Hearing a story has its merits as well.
Is your story a true one?
no subject
Right? Sure, spoken word may not always be as eloquent, but you get the emotion behind it without having to strain your eyes with reading.
Yep, 100% true because I was the sidekick!
