Hey everybody, Rikku here. Coming to you live-ish from the secret pirate base! No spoilers. But it's really not as scary as you might think.

I guess...I was just thinking about home today. Life here's not so different from what I'm used to, just a lot more seas. It's still been weird for me settling in, so I was thinking. Maybe if anybody else is homesick, we could talk about it?

I grew up on an island that was pretty much all desert. The people on the mainland mostly hated us, so we had to build our home somewhere safe that was hard to get to. We're still working on rebuilding it, actually, but...it really wasn't a bad place to grow up. The sands felt like it were hiding all kinds of treasures. And it was so hot that getting to swim was really special!

Here's a picture of my favorite swimming hole. I know I'm not real great at art, but...just looking at this makes me smile, you know?

...well, for the last thousand years, there was this enormous monster called Sin that would come out of nowhere and attack towns if they got too big. The people were scared, so they turned to a religion called Yevon. Yevon taught that Sin attacked because people were arrogant and used machina---machines, so everyone gave up on technology.

Except my tribe, the Al Bhed. We always thought something else was going on, and we kept on using machina to dig up old treasures and find the truth. So people hated us because they thought Sin constantly coming back was our fault. Turns out...Yevon itself had made Sin to keep people scared, and we had to use magic and machina together to beat it.

Hell's bells, that's a lot. [Not that a thousand years of history wouldn't be.] So you showed them what's what. How did they all take it, knowing that they'd been lied to for a thousand years?

It's actually not as bad as it could be? Mostly people were relieved that all the deadly attacks were finally over. And people mostly let go of how they judged us before, so things are going good.

They formed new groups to replace what they lost, and there was a bit of tension for a while, but we've smoothed it over. Now it's just boring politics.

Glad they decided to be sensible about it, even if there are a few blockheads hanging about. Sounds like you were in the thick of it by the way you're talking.

Yeah. My cousin Yuna was the one to beat Sin for good, and I helped get her there! I really thought she was going to die, like Yevon wanted her to...but we got her out alive. We did lose some really good friends along the way, though.

But I've been taught since I was little to try to live every day like it's the last one, because you never know.

Might be your last on your own home planet, at least. Let's hope it's not quite so grim out here, eh? [y'know, on a ravaged planet full of pirates.] Well done to you and your cousin. That's quite a tale.

Yeah! I don't think it's so bad out here. Could be kind of fun?

We're all proud of her, but I'd be happy to be done saving the world, you know? I didn't even mention the time she dragged me into it again after that!

Yup! Turns out an old world-destroying weapon from a war a thousand years ago still worked! They really built machina to last back then. So we had to blast it apart to keep an unsent soul from blowing the planet teo smithereens.

He finally went to the Farplane, though. All he needed was to see his girlfriend again.
