Hey everybody, Rikku here. Coming to you live-ish from the secret pirate base! No spoilers. But it's really not as scary as you might think.

I guess...I was just thinking about home today. Life here's not so different from what I'm used to, just a lot more seas. It's still been weird for me settling in, so I was thinking. Maybe if anybody else is homesick, we could talk about it?

I grew up on an island that was pretty much all desert. The people on the mainland mostly hated us, so we had to build our home somewhere safe that was hard to get to. We're still working on rebuilding it, actually, but...it really wasn't a bad place to grow up. The sands felt like it were hiding all kinds of treasures. And it was so hot that getting to swim was really special!

Here's a picture of my favorite swimming hole. I know I'm not real great at art, but...just looking at this makes me smile, you know?

Thrilled as I am at the prospect of a new world to explore, new treasures to seek and the like— I confess, there are things I do miss about home. The company, for one, though mostly I think certain parties would enjoy being here and it seems a terrible shame for them to miss it. I wouldn't go so far as to call myself homesick, but I'd quite like to see my airship again— sooner rather than later.

Neat! I'm from a family of airship pilots, actually. I'm more into the field work side of treasure hunting, but...yeah. I bet my friends from home could find some cool stuff here.

I'm sure you'll find plenty to occupy you here, in that case.

Yup! I really like it here.

I've just gotta find a place on a ship...there are so many little islands out there. I'm sure that's where all the best stuff is hiding.

I've always found the greatest finds are in places few others dare to touch, myself.

I'm rather used to being captain of my own ship, however. That doesn't seem to be an option just yet.

...well, for the last thousand years, there was this enormous monster called Sin that would come out of nowhere and attack towns if they got too big. The people were scared, so they turned to a religion called Yevon. Yevon taught that Sin attacked because people were arrogant and used machina---machines, so everyone gave up on technology.

Except my tribe, the Al Bhed. We always thought something else was going on, and we kept on using machina to dig up old treasures and find the truth. So people hated us because they thought Sin constantly coming back was our fault. Turns out...Yevon itself had made Sin to keep people scared, and we had to use magic and machina together to beat it.

Hell's bells, that's a lot. [Not that a thousand years of history wouldn't be.] So you showed them what's what. How did they all take it, knowing that they'd been lied to for a thousand years?

It's actually not as bad as it could be? Mostly people were relieved that all the deadly attacks were finally over. And people mostly let go of how they judged us before, so things are going good.

They formed new groups to replace what they lost, and there was a bit of tension for a while, but we've smoothed it over. Now it's just boring politics.

I myself am not accustomed to the sea and ocean travel, so I find I miss traveling my land. I've grown accustomed to the many roads and forests in my world, but are something we have far less of here.

I am sorry to hear that your people were not treated well, in your home. I have some experience with this as well, and it is difficult indeed when one holds no control over others' preconceptions.

It's okay, it got better! People don't really have a reason to hate us anymore.

Yeah, forests are nice. You never know when you'll find a neat critter in there, right? I mean...I like the sea, but it feels a lot more. Samey, I guess?

That is good to hear. Had they truly reason before?

Indeed! The fauna is varied, as are the sights. The blue of the sea is quite enthralling, but... I must agree that it can become somewhat monotonous after long.

...They thought they did. But they were being lied to by the people in power, who told them most of the suffering in the world was our fault. It actually wasn't. But it's all over now.

Maybe we'll get to walk some different islands? I've heard about a couple of neat places...

I left my home back in my world a long time ago so being away from it isn't anything new. That said, the feeling of longing for the days back when you were home doesn't ever fully go away.

Your island must be one special place for you to want to return to it even though the mainlanders hated you, though.

It was. The whole tribe's family.

But I guess there's always something new to look forward to, yeah?

Sounds like a good family you had there.

Exactly. When you can't look backwards, the only thing you can do is face forward and let whatever comes come.

Yeah. Pops and Brother were a real pain sometimes...okay, a lot of the time. But I'd be really sad if I couldn't see them again.

But no matter what...always keep going. It's always too soon to give up hope for the future, I've always believed that.

I'm really not sure what I'm looking at there.

Honestly, there's some things I miss, but a lot of things I don't. It seems like there's a lot less people hovering over you around here which is kind of a perk, I think.

Have you found anything that you enjoy here?

It's a little pond! A desert oasis where us kids used to go to swim when were done working.

I like most of the people, and there's all kinds of treasure to go hunting for! That's neat. But...yeah, I know what it's like when people won't leave you alone to work/

They don't interrupt my work much, but they sure do have a lot of it for me.

Treasure, now you're talking. I'm hoping to find some cool treasure too. Nothing yet, but there's got to be some, right?

Yeah! I always thought there'd be maps, but apparently they're pretty rare. You can't just stumble into finding it, you've gotta dig around. Maybe bribe somebody who knows a few secrets?

...I'm still working on it.

but yeah I kind of know what you mean? it's weird because I was already traveling away from home and then I was barely home and bad stuff happened and then I got taken here and like. it doesn't really feel like I *actually* got to go home at all iykwim

It's a Cactuar! They're really fast and hard to catch, and they can stick you with a thousand needles if you aren't careful. But they always have great loot.

Oh, I'm sorry. That sounds really tough. So close...and yet you're far away again before you can blink, yeah?

loot? they're carrying useful stuff then if you can defeat them?

yeah, that's exactly how it is. you don't need to apologize though I'm good ^^;; like at least I'm not one of the people who got hurt or something you know? but I do kind of want to go back to help when I can.

Yup! Sometimes it's really rare stuff, but no matter what it is, I usually find a way to use it in battle. You can make grenades out of the weirdest parts sometimes.

And...yeah, I hope we get to go home soon. I'm not in a real hurry but it's rude to keep us.
