[ In a rare display, Emet-Selch opts to appear in person. This is important enough to warrant an appearance, he thinks.

The backdrop appears to be a cabin on a ship somewhere. He fills most of the screen so there's not much of significance to be gleaned from it. His posture is relaxed, fingers interlaced loosely before him on the table that his shellphone sits upon. ]

Greetings, one and all.

I and Rem Tokimiya of the Raiders of the Lost Arts are seeking engineers to assist with the development of an engine. 'Tis past time we made a concerted effort to develop one. Inevitable, I would say, as this world has progressed to magical trinkets. We have examined schematics of an old pirate ship and seek to eventually put it to practical use to improve the fleets of both paladins and corsairs.

[ He pauses. It looks as though he wants to add something but he seems to think better of it. ]

Send word to either myself or Rem if you are interested in contributing to the work. While an engine capable of powering a ship is our eventual goal, 'twill be enough to make something on a smaller scale for now - such as heaters for winter or automatic fans for summer.

You're right. But I'm pretty confident I can pick up on the things I don't know fast.

Hmm... Then I shall gladly take you up on that offer. I can fill in whatever knowledge you lack. What sort of engines are you familiar with?

Motorcycles, mostly. Had one back home that was mobile enough to engage in combat. I don't need to keep my hands on it to accelerate and it can easily reverse forwards and backwards.

A small vehicle like that could be an ideal test run before we attempt to build one suitable for a ship. I doubt we could make it so complicated as you describe however.

Probably not, but it doesn't have to be. It's not like you need that level of performance, right?

No. If it can run without falling apart, that will be an improvement on what's already here.

[ And maybe Cloud can keep the prototype for himself when they're done. For deliveries-- ]

[ He seriously needs an all-terrain vehicle for this place. Any ship other than his own makes him motion sick. ]

So that's the stage you're at? Trying to get it to run?

Oh, nothing has been built yet. Unless someone has begun work without my knowledge.

But having overseen the progress of technology many times, I do expect a few...mishaps along the way.

Unfortunately I cannot control for man's own stupidity and recklessness.
