[ Perhaps this was inevitable given recent events and Sherlock's insecurities about his worth and ability to have purpose in this world. ]
I have a small series of questions to ask those who have gone from not having magic to having magic. Of particular interest are those who have only gained magic from this world, but I will not turn away answers from others either.
The reason I ask these questions is I come from a world where magic is usually a trick using sleight of hand and obfuscation. I inherited my brother's notebooks covering magical theories of this world, but they do not go into the more practical applications or personal aspects of magic. Surely the tattoo is only a single step among many.
And because he learned from Alhaitham's survey... ]
I understand that such a topic might be very personal. Respond anonymously if you desire and only what you are comfortable with sharing. If you'd rather meet in person, I can arrange that as well.

- How did you decide on what magic to learn?
- How did you learn to control that magic?
- Do you feel who you are fundamentally has changed? How so?
- Have you created any contingency plans in case something goes wrong with your magic or yourself?

Your use of ki sounds like a type of magic to me, but I digress. It follows that you would chose your element based on the abilities you already knew.
There have been instances in this world where outside forces influenced people's minds. A person with magic would be a greater danger.
[ Sherlock also chastises himself for not considering the angle of what might happen should the tattooist fall either. He's really slipping. ]

Don't underestimate people just cause they may not have magic. Plenty of people from my world have brainwashed me or others before, some with magic artifacts, some others that are simply special shampoo combined with pressing points on a person's head. That's how one chick was able to wipe another's exact memory, while still remembering everything else. Magic's just another tool, like a weapon. It's only extremely dangerous depending on how you use it, and your mastery over it.

I feel we are talking at cross purposes here. I do not doubt how dangerous a person can be. However, there is a difference between a possessed man and, let us say, a possessed man capable of setting fire to another with a snap of his fingers. How you stop one may not work on the other, thus the need for a contingency plan.
[ Does no one else fear what they could do to others and think about ways someone could stop you?
No, Sherlock. That's your trauma talking.]no subject
When you put it like that, I guess I could see where you're coming from. From my experiences, my go-to contingency plan is figuring out what makes others' techniques or items or whatever tick right in the moment and how to counter them.
[Ranma that's not a plan, that's thinking on your feet.]
What brought on this whole survey, by the way?
[Seems a little too out of the blue to be just for the heck of it.]

I was not talking about a contingency plan for others. I wanted to know who had contingency plans to prevent themselves from injuring others and to minimize damage in a worst case scenario.
[ To him there is a distinction. In practice, there might not be one. ]
I already said that my world doesn't have magic, and I thought there would be more involved with the process than just getting a tattoo. Perhaps, it is not as thought out as I believed it would be.
Sorry for wait, work's been clotheslining me TT_TT
Ah. [Ranma's starting to pick up what he's putting down.] Being honest here, I don't got one. I've just been doing my damnedest to not get controlled into attacking people here. Other than that, I've got enough discipline to not do anything rash against people who don't deserve it or can't take it.
[Right... Not everyone's conversant with magic.]
Magic's like that sometimes. I've experienced it hundreds of times in the past few years, and I couldn't begin to tell you the first thing about it.
No worries! I'm a backtagger
Prevention is an important aspect, but I fear it may not be enough on its own.
[ Sherlock, not everyone is afraid of being possessed by cultist forces or losing their mind in general. ]
