Hail, fellow riftfarers:

I write today with a few... wonderings, you might call them. As a few of you may know, my occupation prior to my arrival was that of an innkeeper, so I've found myself rather curious about the state of the hospitality industry here.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from those of you who have rather taken to a life at sea since arriving here, and who have formed crews and the like. If you've a moment to write back, I would appreciate it so very much and would be happy to answer any questions you may have in turn!

• How often do you come ashore to rest at inns or taverns?
  
• What amenities would you most like to see in at an inn?
  
• What sort of food or drink do you find yourself seeking most when you're ashore?
  
• What type of entertainment would you be most interested in during your stay?

I realize I'm adding to a rather plentiful collection of questionnaires and inquiries here... or... innquiries?

P.S. This is much more of a personal inquiry than a professional one, but... for those of who you have come to care for warrior cats... what are some things that you've found to be very successful with building trust with them...?

It varies, mostly due to the tenants and how much is allowed. Most inns have a tavern attached or nearby, so there are more drunken bouts than not. I don't mind general revelry, but if you were to ask my personal opinion, after working all I'd want to do is rest. If the room can block out most of the noise, then I don't really care what else is happening.

[After all, he knows it's unreasonable to expect a place to be more on the quiet side, especially in this kind of world where all walks of life happen. Which is why if the room can allow him a place of reprieve, then it really doesn't matter if there is a full blown party happening on the floor below. Still...]

If there were such an inn that was mostly quiet, however, I'd likely choose it over anywhere else. I've found some, but they are few and far between, both in number and in vacancy.

As for pets, supposing one is only there for a few days at most, then having an enclosed area for them to run around and be able to safely stay behind while I'm out is ideal. Having food and water supplies would be good, however I believe the owner should be bringing their own supplies, so that should be more for emergencies or in the event someone forgot.

The soundproofing mentioned earlier would help mitigate any noise issues as well, but that should be accounted for.

Noted... Believe me, I have seen plenty more drunken bouts break out than I would care to admit. It comes with the territory, when it comes to hosting those of a more adventurous type.

Do you suppose something more... magical could be done with regards to noise? Where I am from, there certainly are spells to achieve this kind affect. There must be a way to do so here. Everyone here is so creative and talented, so I cannot help but wonder...

[ In any case... pet amenities! Her family's inn was never exactly designed for pets, of course, though they had their fair share of familiars and bestial party members running amok. And druids spontaneously turning into animals for seemingly no reason... ]

I see! That all sounds quite reasonable to me, though it does beg me to wonder if you would expect the innkeeper in question [ her ] to be responsible for watching pets while their owner is away?

I believe so. Spell or some kind of device should be available.

And that responsibility would be expected, yes. If not the innkeeper, then someone who is part of the staff. They should be adequately trained in handling different animals, not just dogs or cats.

Alternatively, if you don't want to risk them roaming free or left in the room, provide housing for the pets to stay in, such as crates or kennels. As long as they are let out for adequate exercise and feeding, that would give you the least amount of minimal involvement.

You could also set a limit for the service to make it what works best for you. For example, you will only watch the pet for a maximum of 2 or 3 days and those who know they won't return in time must contact you or risk having their pet taken to a nearby shelter.

Now that I mention it, I suppose it would be better to consider situations where a pet is left for unfortunate reasons, or if there are medical emergencies. Should you pursue this line of service, making connections and contacts with nearby vets and shelters would help, along with disclosing the names to the guests so they are aware.

With all due respect, friend, this is a far more... zoological direction than I'm intending to go.

Though there certainly is something to be said for the idea of an inn for pets, is there not? Perhaps another may take up that endeavor...

Still, watching animal companions for guests staying at the inn should they have a need to be away even from the inn for some hours or even a day does still seem doable. It's not as if I've never dealt with such companions wandering about my family's inn before...

There's no need to apologize. If "satorumon" has such strong feelings about it, maybe he ought to start his own business.

In all honesty, though, it's a sound business idea! If anything, perhaps it could be a future development, if the inn (for people) sees a steady demand in guests who wish to board their animal companions.

Right. Actually, per your suggestion, I did leave Nogard and stayed on Eltrut for some time. I'm quite settled on starting my business there, though perhaps that goes without saying...

But even if it takes some time to get this established, I'm still happy to watch Valo if you need to leave him on Eltrut now and again. I think Satoru has been wanting to have more quality time with dogs, too.
