Two nerds and their robot
Type: Video
Sender ID: peopleneedyou (Tadashi Hamada) featuring; Hiro Hamada (baymaxing) & Baymax
To: Everyone
Subject: Meet the Hamadas and Baymax
Warnings: None
[ The video post starts up to reveal the faces of the Hamada brothers, along with what looks like a red suitcase beside Hiro. Their location isn’t anything special, just somewhere inland on Elrut right now, but the elder brother is smiling anyway. ]
Hello everyone, I’m Tadashi Hamada and this is my younger brother…
[ Tadashi motions to Hiro. The younger brother waves, smiling, and turns his gaze from Tadashi to the phone. ]
I’m Hiro! And this… [He gestures to the suitcase next to him before purposely pulling off a plaster from his knee. His ‘ow’ in instinctive response activates the robot inside, causing Baymax to inflate and turn on, introducing himself with a wave. ]
Hello. I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion. I was alerted to the need for medical attention when you said ‘ow’.
You’ll be seeing Baymax around one or both of us often, so we wanted to introduce him and ourselves. I’m also interested in finding out if anyone had a temporary charging solution seeing as how I haven’t come across a power outlet anywhere yet. [ Tadashi holds up the power cord on Baymax’s charging station for anyone who hasn’t seen anything like it before. ]
Yeah, I’m not sure if the technology here is necessarily compatible—at least, not without some adapting or figuring on our part. Baymax is the priority. Even if it would be cool to actually use my handheld, it won’t die on me eventually. Tadashi and I were both pretty good with tech back home, but this might take some adjusting.
[ Hiro says, a puff of air from his sigh shifting his mess of bangs before he raises his hands in reassuring Baymax that he was fine given the robot approaches and wants to check him over. ]
On a scale of one-to-ten…
[ Tadashi chuckles as he moves to end the video recording for the post while Baymax tends to Hiro. ]

This is him. I was going for a nonthreatening, huggable kind of thing, but I'll take giant balloon.

Well, I couldn't give him medical knowledge and nothing else. Still, he's growing and adapting the more he interacts with people.
My time with Tadashi, Hiro, and their friends have allowed me to learn many new things.
no subject
[A wry grin as he wonders what Mid would do upon seeing Baymax. But at the robot's greeting, he gives it a warmer smile.]
And is that so? I'm sure you'll be learning quite a bit now that you're in a new world entirely, especially one that sounds to be far different from your own.
[And back to Tadashi—]
How adaptive is he?
no subject
Yes. Tadashi has informed me about magic and curses, however, I have yet to experience them.
[ Tadashi pats the marshmallow's shoulder. ]
I'm sure you will soon, Baymax. [ Then to Cid. ] That depends on what you're talking about. Physically, it's harder. I can do some small upgrades and changes here and there easily enough like changing how he's powered, but without some serious equipment, I wouldn't be able to change the larger stuff like his skeleton.
Mentally? Very. He can be taught things and add that information to his caregiving matrix. If I can get my hands on more programming chips, then he'll have a lot more room to store data.
no subject
Aye, I imagine trying to adapt to this world's tech will be your greatest obstacle. How difficult would it be to create one of those chips do you think?
no subject
That's why I figured it would be better to get started on it rather quickly. Baymax won't be very useful if he isn't charged.
Chips are actually pretty difficult. They're basically the heart and mind of Baymax. It'd be easier for me to just try to get some from home. Still, there's a lot of space for more data on the chip he has.
no subject
Makes me wonder if it wouldn't be easier to somehow adjust him to work with the current tech here if you couldn't recreate what you had in your world.
no subject
Hm, maybe. I'm a little reluctant to do that, because when he goes home, he won't be compatible with anything there. If I was going to completely adjust him to this world, I might as well build a whole new one.
no subject
As the inventor you would know best, but I hope you're able to figure out something for him. Would be a shame if he couldn't reach his full potential in this world due to the limitations.
no subject
Maybe when I have more information what will happen if he goes home, I'll be able to make a knowledgeable decision on his upgrades. Though truthfully, I wouldn't mind creating one completely suited to this world to leave behind to help out when we go home someday.
no subject
[He just grins teasingly at that. After hearing everything, he can understand the reasoning behind it.]
But if you do, hope you don't mind if I take a look every now and then. The closest to an "automaton" like that I've ever seen in my world was made of clockwork engineering and magic. They were also more for attacking and guarding so certainly a lot less "friendly."
no subject
[ He's laughing, so clearly no offense is taken at the tease. ]
Not at all. Drop by whenever you'd like to check out the progress. We'll welcome the company. If you want to talk about attacking and guarding bots, Hiro is definitely the kid you want to talk to.
no subject
[A slight arch of the bro.]
While I'm not so keen on creating anything on the "weaponry" side, nature of the world necessitates some form of defense and security at the very least. Not to mention it's always better to be more informed.
I'll have to consider it.
no subject
[ He's curious if Cid has seen hot air balloons or blimps. Not to say anything about how creative one can get with airbags. ]
Good to know. I'm sure you two could pick each other's brains and come up with something pretty awesome.
[ Also, he sees you talking about housing to his bro, Cid. ]
no subject
Honestly it's quite impressive for someone of his age to have such talent, but that just reminds me of my own daughter, Mid. She's here, too, and perhaps they'll get along...for better or worse.
[And he means that in the "what could those two come up with" sense.]
no subject
Yeah, he was able to skip a few grades of schooling and graduated at thirteen. Now he's looking to attend higher education with me.
[ He looks back at the shellphone with a mix of curiosity, amusement, and a hint of horror. ]
If we allow them to hang out, how many fires a month do you think we're looking at?
no subject
Enough that we may need to create something to automatically take care of them for us.
