A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?

And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?

[This is a general broadcast type post, so anyone can threadhop if they'd like to swap stories or anything! Cid will be reading everything...with very keen interest.]

In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.

Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

[ It's not exactly a ritual, but Cid has told her not to talk about it in public. ]

Maybe. I'm not really sure. You don't really summon unless you're fighting a tough opponent and need the big guns.

[ Lifting her arm to show off her... muscles. ]

[He did not know what guns were, but from context - bringing it in to fight a tough opponent, having to summon it - he assumed it was a powerful magical weapon of some sort.]

Are you unable to practice the summoning to master it?

[Sometimes big powerful rituals were an all-or-nothing thing. One time use that couldn't be practiced beforehand that you had to trust would work because it was created by someone who knew what they were doing. He didn't think this was the case with the summoning they were speaking of. From what he could observe of the other conversations going on- incredibly rude, speaking around him like that when they should have been giving him their full attention until he was done - this was not an unusual tactic.]

[ He really is just an old fogy, isn't he? Probably older than even Cid here. ]

I mean, probably. But I'm not gonna summon a person against his will, especially now that I know!

[ As fun as it would be to summon him to help her fight, Yuffie doesn't need him all of the time - nor does she really want to force anyone to handling her battles for her. More of a partnership. ]

He has stated he is willing to be summoned by you again should you need to. Simply arrange for practicing together as a unit and run tests during those times.

[He doesn't see the issue. He's used to being at war and reviewing reports on the state of various units and their combat capabilities. Running drills between battles and examining the weaknesses that would need to be covered was the norm. He could decimate 10,000 heavenly warriors on his own, but he still needed an army to face down a foe 100,000 strong.]

If that's what he wants, then I will. But I'm not sure why the lines are getting crossed. Especially not after only one accident.

[ If it came down to her or the life of others, Yuffie might use it. But that doesn't mean she's going to summon someone who doesn't want to be summoned just for "practice" or research. ]

Thus you should test and practice the technique to determine if it something that can be corrected, or if it is something you must accept.
