A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?

And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?

[This is a general broadcast type post, so anyone can threadhop if they'd like to swap stories or anything! Cid will be reading everything...with very keen interest.]

In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.

Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

Never mind. I don't "have" a living being. It just answers when I call for help. It's called a summoning materia.

Well you've answered one question.

What is your Bahamut like?

Oh, it's a dragon of some kind. Huge, mean, strong... Pretty tough, really! Just about what you'd expect from a summon. But I think it likes me! Am I gonna get to meet your Bahamut?

Now that would depend on the dragon himself, but judging from the response, you may get your chance.

Though you may be a little disappointed.

We already met, actually. He helped me out when I got here. Looks like he missed me a little!

You gonna tell me why that is, or am I going to have to ask?

Then that should help things at least.

And I only mean you likely won't see Bahamut the dragon. Not sure about Dion, but the rest of us haven't really been able to fully prime - change into our Eikons.

"Prime", that's your word for transformation, right? I wonder why you haven't been able to do it fully... But it's probably for the best. I mean, unwittingly turning into a dragon mid-day probably has as many perks as it does cons, right? At least there's a compromise.

If we had to prime, then that would mean the situation is quite dire. However, it does cost us quite a bit to use. So on the one hand, I personally don't find it as a huge loss, but on the other, should we have another ghost ship incident, I would prefer having it than not.

[If they were all able to prime, that thing would have been obliterated in seconds— So maybe it's a good thing they can't/i> for other reasons—]

Hey, no worries. You've got us on your side, now. We can just supplement anything you lost in the meantime. The ghost ship was pretty bad, but we got through it, right? So we'll do it again if anything comes our way.

I don't know if it summoned me so much as Cid did.

Ah, we did in fact meet. I gave you my name, Dion Lesage, but if you prefer Bahamut I would not argue, I'm used to it.

I would not be so hasty as to promise me that, miss Aerith. Should you truly be in trouble, a minor inconvenience to me is nothing.

If Dion's your name, then Bahamut it is! Now to put in a request to change this to Summon Dion...

Honestly? I don't really need to be protected. You don't have to worry that much about me.

I must say this was an unanticipated effect for all of us, I've merely been made aware of the situation now.

Sure, but choosing to not use it is a personal choice, like anything else. I got Ice Materia too, yknow!

Know what I think? There's worse things to happen out here, and at least I know that my friends are nice. So, hey, lose some, win some, right?

I'm not entirely sure my Eikon is the same you are familiar with. What is your Bahamut like?

Bahamut's Bahamut, right? But since you asked... Big, scary, totally powerful, and a very strong dragon. Not all that scary when he's on your side, of course. Ring a bell?

[ Very strong and scary. That's familiar. He's heard those things. ]

I just wondered if there was anything more to him. In our land, Eikons are not separate from the dominant. They have their own will, but not much more than that. It's akin to losing control of your power.

That right? In that case, maybe this is a pretty good compromise.
