A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?

And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?

In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.

Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

So like a contract they agreed to. At least that I can understand, and it makes sense.

I take it this "true name" business is something like a secret name only given to those they trust and has a deeper meaning than just another name to call them by.

Something like that. I dunno, just an idea to try keep it under control at least?

But yeah. Everyone knows Mikleo, but I've almost always known his other name as well, growing up together and all. The others, well, Lailah told me hers so I could practice armatizing in the first place. And I am getting to know Edna better and can use her ability as an Earth seraph.

That's quite the group, but shows they must trust you a fair bit.

Which makes me think of that if we can have some kind of binding contract...perhaps through magic? You may be onto something, Sorey. Don't suppose you'd mind helping with a bit of research, would you? I hear Elah has a decent institution and I'm not exactly in the best position for it.

They do. They know I wouldn't take advantage or anything.

since I'm still figuring this magic and all but there might be something. If I find something, I'll let you know.

I'm sure there must be something in those books there, even if it's just theoretical. This world seems to have a lot more complex and varied magic at least. But it's appreciated.

I can at least try have a look. See what comes up. About pacts or contracts or something. At least, there might be something to sort of use as a start to go off of or something? That you could sort of add or change to suit.

A start is honestly better than what I have now, which is nothing much. As helpful as it is to get ideas from other worlds, that's the exact same problem—this world's magic being different from others.

So anything will do, no matter how unlikely it may seem.

Right. I do want to learn more about this place and it's magic anyway. So I can see if I come across anything that might help you while I'm researching. I may as well keep an eye out for you if I'm trying to go through the books and records here anyway.

That sounds easy enough if you give me their descriptions. But you could learn to ask for bigger favors than that.

Ah, most back home couldn't see or talk to the seraphim, couldn't sense them. But I can describe them just in case. Or at least, maybe using these they might figure getting in touch with everyone. I should have checked with Eizen about that. If people here could see him and all fine.

It's no big deal though? I'm researching anyway.

Eizen? I've met him.

Is he one of those seraph spirit fellows you were talking about earlier?

Yeah. He's the brother of one of the seraphim I was traveling with back home, Edna. Earth seraphim.

[At the least? He assumes that much is allowed? That much isn't saying too much without contacting Eizen to check? Sorey doesn't want to overstep or say too much, but he figures that much should be safe enough to mention.]

If it's the same one, then I can at least answer that I've seen him like any other person.

Yeah, that's him! So you could see him too. Maybe there is something different about this place then. That others can see them? Back home, most mortals, us humans, we don't usually have strong enough spiritual sense, enough Resonance to sense them, to see and talk to them like I do. I wonder what's different here if so?

Aye, I could see and even touch him fine. But now I wonder if me being a Dominant has anything to do with it.

We're still human same as anyone else, and can't say I normally sense anything supernatural or the like, but it does give us that little extra something to make us different from others.

Huh. I'm not sure if that might factor in. I only saw him the once in person so far. But if you don't normally figure sensing spirits or stuff like that back home it might be something about this place then.

It could very well be given all the other changes. But you'd be better off asking himself.

I might ask next time I see him. Or next time I message him I guess. To check.

Certainly wouldn't hurt to check.
