A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?

And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?

[This is a general broadcast type post, so anyone can threadhop if they'd like to swap stories or anything! Cid will be reading everything...with very keen interest.]

In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.

Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

Overall protectiveness aside, using our powers can put a bit of a drain on us. Not to mention she's likely worried what kind of situation he would be pulled into without warning.

[They all also have...a bit of history with the whole "doing something against their will" so there is also that but he'll let them talk about it if they want. No need to make this poor girl feel worse than she might already.]

But you've met Jill already? Should make things a little easier to talk things over.

Is there anything that we could do to help? Those of us that do have materia that is? Besides not using them.

[She does remember the things that Jill had said about using her powers, and being forced to use them. Something about a curse, and she'd tried to help with the strain the poor woman felt in her hand at the time. If this has anything to do with that, then...]

As far as I know, it's only that particular summon materia that affects us. Now I don't know the ins and outs of how they work, but that's what I'll be testing with Yuffie later. Suppose if any of us should do it, might as well be me.

[He has the most experience...and...level head about this. Not to mention the mind to think of the different possibilities to consider.]

Clive is the one who will be affected by your materia and, as you can see, he's not exactly...thrilled about it. But don't mind him too much.

She commits that name to memory, and she thinks she understands now. Clive is the one who had sent that more-cryptic-than-she'd-have-liked message, and he is also the one that Jill was talking about.

Right.]

Guess better that I found out now than accidentally summoning him later, huh. But I'll keep it somewhere safe. Try not to keep it on me if I can help it.

In the meantime, thanks for understanding, and for looking out for Yuffie. Can't imagine how it must feel accidentally summoning a whole person out of thin air like that, but I appreciate it.

Imagine mine when one moment I'm stabbing an undead, and the next I'm mid-air and falling onto my back.

But better me than someone else, I suppose. I hope those in your group are as understanding.

[Not even begin to. At least he seems to have handled it a lot better than some other people might have. It could have been a lot worse for both of them, she supposes.]

But you have nothing to worry about. I'll make sure to pass on the message to any one of them that hasn't heard yet not to use their summons.

So, just out of curiosity... you know Jill too, then?

She told me about your world, and how the magic is taxing on people. I wondered if that had anything to do with it, but I think I'm starting to get the picture a little clearer.

That would indeed be part of it, along with the struggles that came with being a magick user.

I could tell you more, but if you're going to speak with Jill she may also cover the same.
