A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?

And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?

[This is a general broadcast type post, so anyone can threadhop if they'd like to swap stories or anything! Cid will be reading everything...with very keen interest.]

In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.

Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

[He is also the one who hates his gift the most? Can he blame her for being a bit confused at this odd turn of events?

But when he cants his head and says that, she can't help but bite down on her pipe, her eyes narrowing at the camera of her phone. She gives it a long, slow drag, and lets the smoke billow past her lips before she answers.]

Because you were a terrible choice.

[No, it's more than that, and Benedikta hates that he's caught on... and so has she.]

It's not as if me being against the idea would change anything anyway, so it doesn't matter.

[He may despise what it's made them become... But he won't deny it has its uses. And if it's something he can wield to protect those holds dear, he will wield it.

Regardless the cost.]

Oh I don't know. Would make me a little happy knowing you were worried about it.

[Smirk.]

[She catches that smirk, and she's going to ignore it.]

If you hurt yourself, who is going to fetch you and kiss your wounds better?

[That is to say that yes, she is worried, and no, she isn't going to say it. Benedikta had seen the curse's progression well enough even back in Waloed, and she had seen how much weaker he was in the chapel compared to what she knew before.

And he is the one who is going to go up against someone who brags and flaunts about how they are a god? In his condition?]

[Just a light, playful hum as he arches a brow.]

But you would make for a lovely nurse.

[A roll of her eyes to match his playfulness.]

A pity for you that I do not plan to waste that on this useless endeavour of yours.

[A pause, a puff, and she grabs her phone, kicks her feet up onto the table, and sits back with the device sitting on the couch beside her now.

She looks no less annoyed, though. If anything, it's more so.]

You are really going through with it?

[ramuhs]

[Just a light roll of his eyes as he leans back in his chair and reaches over to where a half-lit cigar rest on the nearby tray.]

I am.

[garudas]

[There's a slight twitch of her brow at his answer, but her expression remains otherwise unchanged.]

What exactly are you so worried about happening that you, of all of us, would need to prime?

[ramuhs]

[Oh he could think of many reasons, one of them staring right at them. But he just shrugs as he takes a smoke.]

Whole new world, whole new different threats. That ghost ship, for example. If something worse appeared, then better to know whether worth it or not.

[garudas]

And there are plenty of others here more than capable of doing something about it.

[She has always hated this about him. Even when they were together and things were fine, Benedikta never liked that self-sacrificing part.

Even more, that he is so stubborn about it that nothing she says will change his mind.]

If I ever hear another lecture from you again, Cidolfus...

[It isn't even about the lectures. Not completely, anyway.]

If anything were to happen...

[ramuhs]

[...She's worried. She's not saying it, but he can hear it and see some of the signs.]

Nothing will happen. At worst I'll just come back and need a long nap.

[Hopefully.

He hasn't coughed up blood so far in his time here, and he probably shouldn't try pushing himself to that point, curse or not.]

[No, she's not. Don't look at her like that, Cid.]

Any more and you are on your own.

Not even a little visit?

She puts out her pipe, grabs her phone—]

I'm hanging up now.

[—and ends the call.

She's so tired of this martyr complex of his.]

[He'll just stare at the blank screen for a moment before setting his phone down for a bit, ignoring the incoming texts from the broadcast as he slowly smokes his cigar.

He can't blame her, really, but...

...He also can't tell her the myriad of other reasons that he's doing this. She's already pissed at him, the rest will only make it worse.

But he's already decided this is something he needs to do. He'll just deal with the consequences as they come.]
