A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?
And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?
[This is a general broadcast type post, so anyone can threadhop if they'd like to swap stories or anything! Cid will be reading everything...with very keen interest.]
In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.
Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

Surprisingly so. Even in mine it was once a thing in the past, but that was distant past.
no subject
yeah? huh. wonder why they aren't around anymore.
i've read about some theoretical "summons" in my world. they're called persona, called forth from the heart of the user.
[ yeah... "read." ]
no subject
[Would have given him some more insight about their own problem directly, but alas.]
Heart of the user?
no subject
yeah, heart of the user. their will of rebellion. another side of themselves. it's a summon, but... it's still THEM.
does that make sense?
no subject
You say it's another side of themselves. Perhaps some manifestation or version of their own person?
no subject
because wouldn't you know it? they're even called personas.
no subject
So for what purpose would anyone need to call upon their persona?
no subject
there's supposedly some kind of alternate
let's call it plane? of existence
where there are things called shadows that'll tear you apart if you don't have a persona to defend yourself with. sounds pretty dangerous, but... kind of exciting too, you know?
no subject
Only someone who is keen on fighting would find dangerous shadows exciting to deal with.
But these shadows exist in a different plane or dimension? Do they affect those of the...let's call it "primary" plane where everyone else exists?
no subject
or someone with a healthy imagination
but yeah, they could, but it was kind of
subtle, usually? vague? basically, every person was said to have a match in that other plane, and that could affect them. but you're saying the summons in your world were just running around and stuff?

a little]Not quiet. In my world, our Eikons are entities that bind themselves to a vessel, granting them the ability to call forth their powers, including transforming into them.
no subject
Huh. That is kind of different, isn't it? More like... possession, than the summon being yourself.
no subject
Dominants can maintain full control of themselves even when in the form of the Eikon. However, we do have the Eikon inside us, so should we ever lose that control or allow it to take over, then it becomes more like a possession. At that point, there is greater risk of the Eikon acting on its own and going berserk, requiring an external force to subdue them and return the Dominant.
