A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?

And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?

[This is a general broadcast type post, so anyone can threadhop if they'd like to swap stories or anything! Cid will be reading everything...with very keen interest.]

In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.

Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

Not by choice, but it was something I've learned to accept.

Ifrit's flames burn different since my arrival here, though. The spark is weaker, but that doesn't mean I don't know how to fight.

So, you're the friend Jill was telling me about. Would've accidentally summoned you, huh?

Still not sure I understand how this all works or what that means, but good thing I didn't that one time I thought about it. Would've thrown you at a bunch of angry sirens.

[gruffier]

[ Oh? She's met Jill, too? That... does make him deflate a little bit. ]

Thank you for not doing that, then.

This is still a mystery to us all, but if you are finding yourself in a situation where you do need help... you can just ask, and I'll come help.

That's kind of you to offer. I should be fine, but I guess now I know where to find you if I ever do.

Clive. Corsair.

[ Maybe that scares her off more? Who knows. ]

Just be sure to keep those stones safe. I'm not sure if you're the only one capable of summoning Ifrit or not, but best not to have too many hands on them.

[Nah. She's learned that most corsairs are just big bears pretending to be scary.]

I will. Though, if it makes you feel better, we could always give it a try someday and see if it even works the same.

In the meantime, I'm just going to add you. You know, just in case. :)

That might be the safest plan. Testing out its affects would keep us both prepared.

[Well. Someday, she'd just really love to meet the guy who is both Ifrit and the owner of the user name "gruffier"... if they can get do some testing too, then that's just a bonus.

And she's about to respond to the first part, when she gets another... and Tifa stares at her phone for a while. Is he asking her why she's smiling? Because they solved the problem!!!]

Sometimes it's so easy to forget that there are people in this world who have never seen those emojis (or whatever they're called) here...]

So the ( is a frown? I never knew these devices had that capability.

They've got plenty. You just gotta know where to look. They can get all sorts of complicated, but we'll save that lesson for another time, as long as you got the basics. :)

At any rate, I'd love to meet you in person sometime, Clive! Would be nice to put a face to the summon sitting in my wrist. ;) (that one's a wink)
