Good day, everyone.

[An easily polite opening, Turo carrying the phone in hand, just getting a shot of his head and shoulder—]

My apologies for being on low contact for a while, even thought some of you could still easily find me at Cosmo Conservatory animal sanctuary. There was a... much needed break taken, one could say. Not that it was completely filled with rest.

[—some could likely recognize Dojima sitting on the floor within view, Mariposa walking up beside the man and setting one of the wiggly, squeaky-noise making puppies right into the man's hands. More than one in view as while Dojima was playing with them, well.

In a short amount of time the detective was simply on his back and at the 'mercy' of Xolos puppies just starting to get their paws under them. Iron Valiant carrying a few clean blankets simply stepping over/around it all easily.

Turo focusing the camera on himself, a very sleepy Xolos puppy cradled against his chest -a few white spots on otherwise black fuzz- with a loose lavender 'ribbon' around its neck. Could possibly count 8 puppies in total.]

Mariposa made sure of that. Once they are a little older, and house trained, these little ones going off to a less crowded home may do them well; and do not worry if you do consider it, this breed does do well around other animals.

Do feel free to stop by and visit in person, or simply ask over this.

[Despite that Things Keep Happening™ there, at least this had been a brighter spot.]

Seems like she's got a lot, at least.

[Faulkner reaches to give her a small scratch, before holding out a hand to let some of the puppies sniff at it. He figures that's probably better than just trying to pick them up.]

Hey, there...

Well, that's a good sign, right?

[He was assuming it was a good sign. After a moment he picked up one of the pups that wiggled closer. He seemed a little uncertain how to hold it, but he was being careful at least.]

How long will that take?

[He's really never been around dogs enough to guess.

The one he picked up happened to be a mix of colours. He chuckled a little as it sniffed at him, before eventually resting it against his chest and cradling it there with a hand. So warm!]

[And he had no idea if that was normal, so he just nodded.

He wasn't sure he knew Turo well enough that he should really pry about how the man had been doing with everything—instead he's generally just been hanging around the conservatory doing his best to help with things wherever he could.

And for a few moments he seemed equally content to just hold the puppy. He hadn't exactly had much touch for... a while before getting here, let alone soft animals.]

How long do they need to stay here for?

[A part of him found that strange... and a part of him wondered if it would feel similar to hold any baby puppy this cute.]

Well, it'll be nice having them around here for now.

That's good.

[But it reminded him of something else he was tempted to ask about.]

Is it true that... no one's wanted to adopt Angel?

[And Turo might or might not have already picked up on that being what Faulkner had nicknamed the Cerberus pup. It was probably a more confusing question if he hadn't.]

All right... just seems kind of sad if no one has.

[A little pause. He sort of absently pets the puppy he's still holding.]

But he'll—he'll definitely go wild in the long run?

[He blinks and looks back up from the puppy.]

What all did he do..? Sounded like he was upset after the others got homes? Or somethin' like that?

[But Faulkner didn't get all the details, nor was he actually in the best state to absorb them when this actually came up in conversation.]

Oh.

[And all he says is 'oh,' but it's probably clear he feels some kind of way about that. It's not like he can judge; the line between loneliness and homicidal tendencies is both fine and easily crossed, in his experience.]

What kind of arrangements? I mean—what would adopting him entail if he's still going to go wild again...?

[personal profile] withermarked 2025-05-05 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
[And a part of him hates the idea of getting attached to something that will stop caring about him, but then, doesn't he have plenty of experience? Yes, he does. He's perfectly accustomed.

Besides, change and loss are part of growth. He can't begrudge something that. And doesn't everything deserve a family it has the chance to outgrow?

None of this is what he blurts out.]

...Where do I sign?

[personal profile] withermarked 2025-05-05 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I am.

[And he almost leaves it at that, but then he looks a little sheepish.]

I wouldn't... presume to say I'm the best choice. I never had pets growin' up and I don't have anywhere else for him to live. But someone should.

[Of course, he wouldn't have jumped into the idea nearly so fast without that last bit of backstory. But he understands loneliness, and sorrow, and rage. He understands that to be loved may be ideal but to be feared feels infinitely less helpless than to be ignored.

...But he continues to say none of this out loud because he does, at least, sometimes realise when he'd sound unhinged.

What he does instead is set the puppy carefully back down with its siblings, so he can find and look over the paperwork.]

True enough—and I wouldn't necessarily want to make him get used to somewhere new.

[At least, not unless it was actually comparably nice to the kind of space he has here.

Faulkner grabs a pen, and there's an odd little moment of hesitation before he ends up signing Richard Faulkner in beautiful cursive. Faulkner isn't actually a surname, but Richie feels more like someone who would own a dog than high prophet Faulkner does. On the other hand, giving his older surname would simply be confusing at this stage.]

Do you think he'll understand me?

[A little pause.]

Maybe someone he can ought to tell him. Wonder if Chris'd be annoyed if I asked 'em...

[That last part is half to himself. It seems like a sort of silly thing to bother them about, but then again they're around the Conservatory a lot anyway.

Wait, the whole 'talks to animals' power wasn't a secret or anything, right? He hopes not.]
