[ a new voice comes across the network today, low in pitch, fantasy british, but with little inflection, like this is a person who is used to hiding her innermost thoughts. she considered using the video function, but she's still a little too cautious for that. ]

Right. So. Got a few questions. First: Anybody got a lead on good coffee 'round here? Best places, preferred makers or types? Haven't been this long without a cup since I was a teenager.

[ and nobody wants to see her make her own. it'll work for her, but, well.. the results are terrifying. ]

Second: I may be in the market for something to do. Back home I've a reputation for finding things, researching. Might be interested in helping out.

[ people who are good at reading between the lines can pick up that she means she is definitely interested in helping out and putting her expertise to good use. ]

Third: Any leads on writing ink? My pen could use a refill and I have more than a few notes to go over already.

Fourth: ...nail polish? Or is that too much to hope for?

[ this is something of a distraction. yes, she loves keeping her nails painted (specifically in teal) and her eyeliner game is to die for, but a lot of what she's asking for is also a way for her to judge who reacts and how. those reactions will tell her a lot about the type of people are here and who can potentially be trusted for what, who has what kind of information, and the like.

[ treats for assan and babysitting, is what she means, but she's still not sure how many people know about the boy or if davrin was keeping assan off the streets when they met to keep him hidden or just out of reach. ]

I say this with the most respect I can - I think everyone in the Lighthouse knows that.

[Like they know Lucanis doesn't sleep, Manfred likes rock paper scissors, and not to eat Harding's cooking.]

Time off? I don't think I know what that is.

[Not what she's offering - he gets her intent. But seriously, do any of them know what "time off" is?]

You're telling me that's not a secret? Am I so predictable?

[ she does not sound too pressed about this. ]

All the more reason to start learning. And if you try to say I have no leg to stand on, I'll remind you that I do, in fact, have a spare.

[ yeah, she just made a joke about her missing leg, all right. ]

[And it's good to banter back and forth. It feels like something's clicked again. First when Harding arrived, now Neve. This feels so much better.]

[He'd been so used to operating on his own, in the wilds. Friends in the Wardens, sure, but... those were fleeting by nature. By what they were. He'd left any friendships with his clan long ago. Now it's like stepping back into a home he never knew he'd left.]

[Weird.]

You have two very good legs to stand on, I can vouch for that. One's just shinier. So looks like we're going to end up learning together.

[ it's natural, the easy banter of old friends. funny how she went into that job with varric and lace thinking she'd be in and out quickly, that it would be just any ordinary job and she'd be back to her normal "i only have myself to rely on" mindset.

funny how the lighthouse crew wormed their way into her heart and now she can't imagine life without them. sure, sometimes they go days between talking when someone's gone back to their respective cities or people for a time, but they always come back in the end. if she'd felt lost without them in easy contact for a day, she can't imagine how davrin must have felt, being the first one here. ]

You know. I think I can live with that. Might even have a lead on some drinks we could try.

[ is he a coffee drinker or did he join the tea crew, she's not really sure. ]

Going to have to step up the game. Can't get stale, right?

[There's a lot of lost time to make up for. Weird - how that works. How you feel like you have to make up for losing something you didn't even realize was so important.]

[At least he had Assan. If the little griffon hadn't been here with him, it would have been intolerable. For so many reasons. But they're here now, Neve and Harding. Now it feels better. Feels right again.]

Okay, what kind of drink? Your kind?

[Davrin is firmly on the "whatever is available" team.]

Something like that. Can't let it get boring. Would hate to be predictable.

[ neve would love to have more friendly faces around, but at the same time she knows what her last memories were. to have more of their number pulled away at so crucial a juncture, especially given what she thinks happened to her. they need everyone there, as many as possible to fight the gods. and even if it means she's going back to her death, she will fight here to find a way back. she owes it to rook. to bellara. to lucanis. to davrin and lace and everyone else.

so while she's grateful to have two friends here, she has a job to finish at home. ]

Tea or coffee, so they say. Nothing I've had a hand in making. Promise. [ it's a joke as much as it is a promise. they all know better than to let her near the kitchen unless it's just to eat. ]

The day you are predictable is the day I admit the Crows are a bunch of decent people. All of them.

[Not just Lucanis - who he's more or less at peace with at this point. Far as he's concerned, the rest are just awful murdering criminals.]

I'm not picky. Never was. As long as it's drinkable, I'm in.

[ that gets a laugh. small, but for her? it's impressive. and genuine. ]

So, never, then. Good to hear.

[ at least they aren't trying to kill each other still. that's a win, even if they never agree fully. ]

We'll have to try it. Drag Lace to try the tea, while we're at it. Might give us somewhere to rest every so often.

[They'll bicker with each other forever, but their issues are pretty much resolved by now. To which everyone in the Lighthouse is probably grateful for.]

She'll be game. And probably like it, once we find a good one of her. She's a try anything kind.

[And that's a good thing, judging from his tone of voice.]
