[ a new voice comes across the network today, low in pitch, fantasy british, but with little inflection, like this is a person who is used to hiding her innermost thoughts. she considered using the video function, but she's still a little too cautious for that. ]
Right. So. Got a few questions. First: Anybody got a lead on good coffee 'round here? Best places, preferred makers or types? Haven't been this long without a cup since I was a teenager.
[ and nobody wants to see her make her own. it'll work for her, but, well.. the results are terrifying. ]
Second: I may be in the market for something to do. Back home I've a reputation for finding things, researching. Might be interested in helping out.
[ people who are good at reading between the lines can pick up that she means she is definitely interested in helping out and putting her expertise to good use. ]
Third: Any leads on writing ink? My pen could use a refill and I have more than a few notes to go over already.
Fourth: ...nail polish? Or is that too much to hope for?
[ this is something of a distraction. yes, she loves keeping her nails painted (specifically in teal) and her eyeliner game is to die for, but a lot of what she's asking for is also a way for her to judge who reacts and how. those reactions will tell her a lot about the type of people are here and who can potentially be trusted for what, who has what kind of information, and the like.
her connection game starts here. ]

[ Almyran coffee is... A thing. ]
There should be plenty of ink too. I know I haven't had any issues finding any.

[ and she'd drink hers. terrible as it was, it still did the job she needed it to do. she already misses the brews lucanis leaves out for her, but he's not here so she won't get any of that. ]
That's good to know. I take notes on the run. Would hate to run out of ink when I need it most. Hard to keep track of things if I can't write. I assume you understand that sentiment.

[ He wants to ask how she could mess things up so bad for that to be the result. Claude, politely, does not. At this time. ]
Anyway, I actually do. Now I don't take notes on the go so to speak, but my walls are absolutely covered. People say it's chaotic, but I say everything is strategically placed.

[ look, she's talented at a lot of things. cooking and making coffee? not part of it. there's a reason she's always on dish duty when it's group pot luck and why lucanis always makes her meals these days. otherwise she'd be back to subsisting on halos's fried fish every day in minrathous. ]
Oh really? Sounds like mine at home. Case notes pinned on the walls where I can move them around more easily, study and make connections. Much easier than just keeping them in one place.

[ Hey, at least Neve can clean dishes. The last time that Khalid had done that, several dishes ended up broken. So! ]
You must be a visual person, kind of like me. Sometimes I have to see it in order to get it.
no subject
[ she can confidently say she can clean dishes without breaking them! that's a win. ]
Yeah. See the pieces, move them around. Makes more sense than trying to put it all together on parchment. Sometimes just staring at them all on the wall makes something click into place. Strategic chaos that makes sense to the investigators.
[ speaking of investigating and putting things together, she circles back around to something from earlier. ]
You mentioned something specific about that coffee place, that it's the only one that can make it the way you're used to. Curious what way that is, how different it is from what I know. Is it in the taste?

[ Because it really seems like they are on the same vibe with how their minds work. Sometimes that visual just makes things a lot easier. It's like a framework of how his brain categorizes and links information together. Most people can't make sense of it. At least his war maps were constructed in a way that everyone could understand.
Ah his poor Deer. ]
Anyway, the biggest difference is that you don't really filter the coffee itself. You grind the coffee itself until it's a super fine powder. We have these small containers with water and sugar, if you want, that we bring to a boil. Then you add the coffee and whatever else. Rosewater. Cardamom. Whatever you want, really. After that you boil everything again. You know you have it right when there's a nice foam on the top.

[ and truth be told, her wall is still more organized than half of what comes out of bellara's mouth. if the lighthouse crew can circle her thoughts back around to the task at hand, they can deal with neve's wall of notes. ]
And here Lucanis gave me a wounded look when he discovered I boiled a pot once. Will definitely have to try it. [ to be fair her coffee also turned to sludge and the assassins' poison expert called it "unsettling." ] Thanks for the recommendation. I think it's different from what Lucanis makes at home, but coffee is coffee. All I need is something hot that keeps me awake.

[ Pffft. The thing is, the consistency could be completely off if not done right. So it could turn into sludge, he supposes. ]
Kavs has that style. Personally, I wouldn't suggest ever having me around dishes or a stove or whatever else belongs in a kitchen. It's definitely not the place that I thrive.
[ Because he is, in fact, a poison expert himself ]
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what you make of this place after a while.

[ she's the one woman mage clean-up crew for a reason... ]
I'll let you know. Check back in after a month or so.
