So [There's a bit of a lazy drawl. If anyone recognizes this voice and knows the owner, they can detect a hint of agitation and a growl] is it a common thing to be sent back to one's world and then come back to this one?

[Because guess who that happened to. Not that Leona recalled anything concerning Escordvi back home, but he's feeling the whiplash from going to one annoying incident to another.]

Your demeanor, mostly. There's a weight to your shoulders and instead of telling me to mind my business or waving it off with "it's fine?" You're just kind of silent.

[ He squeezes Leona's hand. Talk to him? ]

[He scoffs softly.]

Dreams are a heck of a thing, you know. But it can still be hell of a thing for one's people to want to overthrow you for actually making their land barren and stripped of resources.

Hmmm.

[ Now he drags Leona's hand into his lap. Holds it securely. Look at Leona, opening up a little for him there. Dreams are a hell of a thing. Leona doesn't need to tell him that. ]

There's a lot to be said about dreams, sure.

[ Desires. Fears. Things that they don't want to face. All of them are applicable, of course. ]

You've talked about what you'd like to do before. What do you make of the dream now that you're out of it?

[The question has his lips curving. Not quite self-deprecating, but something...satisfied.]

I ain't gonna be held down by tradition or whatever. I'm going to find my own kingdom and my own people.

[In other words, a home of his own choosing and not him being so fixated on what could have never been.]

[ Upon hearing that, Khalid bumps his head against Leona's. It's progress, actually. Here Claude had thought that whatever had happened would set Leona back a little bit. He's pleased that this isn't the case. ]

Glad to hear it. Tradition is overrated anyway.

[ Yes, Khalid had become King in his own country, but that doesn't mean he had been embraced. He had chosen his own path and his own allies and people to hold close. For him, it has always been about creating a world in which he could belong instead of ruminating on things that could have never been. ]

Really proud of you, Leona.

Yeah, yeah.

[He scoffs, even if his ears betray him with the slightest twitch.

Leona's always had issues finding his own place to belong. As much as he dislikes how it occurred, the epiphany is nice to finally have.]

What's happened while I was away?

[ Before he answers any questions like that, Khalid reaches out and takes Leona's cheek in hand. He directs the other down a little. As he presses foreheads together, he steals a quick kiss. Just a peck on the lips. ]

Not much, really. Nogard's still cold. Azul finally woke up. Someone keeps doing weird shit with animals and human parts. It's not like you were gone for that long.

Long enough for shit to keep happening.

[He exhales softly.]

Oh, the octo-punk is finally awake?

When does it ever really stop?

[ He shakes his head and leans against Leona more. Drops that head of his on a shoulder. ]

Yeah, he is. Seems like he's still a bit lost.

[Fair point.

A low hum.]

He remembers what happened?

Bits and pieces, but not everything.

[ He wants to ask if that's normal, the amnesia. Is it something that will eventually come back or is that something that will be buried? ]

[Leona is quiet, taking that in.

Then he tilts his head, eying his husband.]

You seem like you have something to ask.

We didn't really talk much about the actual incident when it happened with you.

[ He sucks in a breath. ]

What it is like?

Invigorating.

[Well, he won't lie about that.]

It's a mixed feeling of being liberated, but at the same time, there's a weight threatening to crush you underneath. It becomes a blur as the Phantom starts trying to take over you.

[ He hums, leaning more against Leona. rubbing his cheek against a shoulder, Claude stops and thinks about what that could mean. Freedom, but but maybe it's more like a void - ]

Is that what it does? Try to take over?
