Have you ever had to reinvent yourself?

I mean, have to might be a bit much, but let's say you get a chance to, and maybe there's some things you want to leave behind, and anything that could've been stopping you before, isn't.

How would you do it?

It just seems like an awkward conversation to have.

No one liked me before I became what I did. I don't know why it would be different now. I mean, that's why they told me to act that way right?

What were you like back then? How long has it been?

It's been seventeen years give or take. Maybe eighteen now.

I don't know, I was quiet and withdrawn. I didn't have very much to say. I was always trying to fix things, but I didn't know how to do that so I don't know how much I was helping the situation.

...And how old are you now?

None of that sounds like a reason to dislike someone. Sounds like you were doing your best to me.

Yeah, maybe, but those aren't the kind of qualities people like.

I'm twenty-four probably, with my time here. Twenty-three if you go with my last birthday at home. Hard to really say.

I think caring enough to try to fix things is a quality people like.

Anyway that makes you what, six? Disliking a child that small just seems cruel. And I'm not sure it says much about what people would think of you now.

I guess, but I really didn't know anything.

It's not any better now. When things came out at home, even though I just saw the immediate aftermath, it wasn't exactly pretty. I know this and still, I think you're right, I just...don't feel seen.

That sounds like someone else told people their way?

You seem like someone who cares a lot about other people. Puts them first. You have a right to feel seen, too.

There was nothing to deny. I can't deny where I came from, and how that makes people see me.

I don't worry about myself much, so I don't know why this bothers me so much. It shouldn't matter.

Even if there was nothing to deny, someone else's narrative isn't the same as you choosing what to tell people.

It's alright to worry about yourself. If it bothers you this much, then it matters.

I guess I'm just not used to it. I don't know how to go about this, or what I'm going to do but, I appreciate your perspective.
