It's a new year. I guess this does make me wonder. Depending on how long we are here. What this means for birthdays. If I'm here long enough and have a birthday here does that count still or? Cause I'm not sure how that might work here. Being somewhere else and all. Plus, if I had my birthday and Mikleo didn't back home that'd be weird. Being older than him like that, We've always been the same age, both seventeen at the moment. I mean I know seraphim live way longer than humans but still.

And this is when people sometimes have goals or wishes for the year right? Stuff they want to do? I haven't really thought of anything for mine besides seeing new places, exploring this place. Learning more about this place, sailing and helping people.

But I heard people talking about New Year's earlier? I thought they were saying it had just been recently?

[He had also heard it mentioned, but assumed people were just preparing early. Some did so, particularly among the more common people of the Moon Tribe and greater Cangyanhai. So it hadn't seemed strange to him at the time. Though, now that he had it pointed out to him, it did seem odd. Why would this world celebrate the same new year that Daqiang was familiar with? How did they mark the new year? What events precipitated the specific day that was chosen and for what purpose?]

This venerable one was not paying much attention to such talk. If it has passed, it comes at a different time of the year than it does in this venerable one's world.

So I guess depending on where one is from New Year's might have just been or might still be coming up. Huh. I guess that might make sense. Time might be different, for you and for the others here that celebrate it around this time. What do you do to celebrate? When it comes up for you?

I totally counted my birthday as my birthday while I was here. Close enough.

So you think I should just choose? If it counts?

I dunno. I guess I wasn't sure. I dunno how well time kinda translates I guess to how things are back home. It would just be weird. To be older than Mikleo.

I don't know how it translates either, but I was pretty close to my birthday so once we hit that Halloween season I figured close enough.

I was like two weeks from being seventeen to begin with. I guess for that it depends on how long we plan on being here. I don't mind this place, I'm not exactly in a hurry to rush back.

Oh that was kind of fun. I'm not sure we have something like that back home so much. But dressing up and giving out sweets is neat.

Oh, so the same age as me then. I'm seventeen too.

That was really fun, I got so much candy!

Yeah, it's alright I guess? It's not like I did anything for my birthday it's just now I'm seventeen.

It's a little confusing to think about, isn't it? If this world's calendar means that New Year's has passed, then this month would be considered Ignismens in my world, the Flame Month. [ But when she had arrived almost three months ago, she had been taken from her world the last month of her world's calendar, Caelusmens. ] Had I been back in my world, the new year would have already passed two months ago.

But this world's clocks also have 12 hours on all of their faces. In my world, it's 13.

I think time behaves strangely when jumping between worlds, so you should choose a birthday as you see fit.

Ignismens? The Flame Month. So like Lailah! Ah, my friend back home, I mean. She's a fire seraph. It's kind of weird, right? Figuring things that are similar but so different here compared to back home. Even maybe the time of year. I hadn't considered clocks. So I guess it makes sense that some aspects with timing might be different. I was just thinking with people talking about New Year's, about birthdays is all.

Does your friend also have a month named after her?

What about your calendar? Any big changes you noticed when coming here?

Not that I know of? Lailah is just Lailah. I mean. She's very special to me but I'm not sure how many others know about her with her being a seraph and all. With humans not usually being able to sense them, see or talk to them.

I'm not sure if ours is much different, really?

Even holidays and month names? Or do you mean not much different in other ways?

I gotta admit, I haven't even been paying attention to all that stuff.

I just know it's winter and even that's weird.

No? It's just interesting figuring the stuff that is similar, what's different here compared to back home. But I dunno that might just be me with my love of history. Of learning about the past. Ruins. And this place has a lot I still get to explore yet.

Look forward to things. I can see that. Yeah.
I know there's a lot of stuff back home to get to. People waiting for me. I'm just trying, here, to focus on what I can do here and now, what I can help with.

It's a bonus if I can find out more about this place, the history, any ruins we come across.

There's no shortage of ruin it seems. Like, every island seems to have something.

Do you think people have noticed we're gone?

Don't think about it too hard. If it's the day and you want to celebrate, go for it.

Thinking about the time and space continuum and trying to make pure logical sense of it is just an easy way to get an aneurysm.

I guess so. It's just new to me having to question stuff like this that we take for granted, you know? I am curious on what else might all be different and what might be similar to stuff back home.

I can understand that. After you've been through this a few times, you just come to realize it doesn't really matter. Life is pretty good at going back to normal once you go back.

[Unless if you're able to maintain memories after the fact. Then it gets weird.]

A few times? Ending up here is a first for me? I mean, leaving my village was a big enough deal let alone being here. I know there's still a lot to get back to back home. I'm just. I guess trying to focus on things here that I can help with. While I'm here, may as well?

It's like I just said, it'll do you good to keep being productive. Things like time and such fall into place and you'll find your rhythm. This is my third time doing this, so you can trust me on this.
