Pardon me for intruding on your time, but I've a question or two. If you'd like to humor my curiosity, you have my thanks in advance.

Upon arrival, we've found ourselves aligned with a group without much say in the matter. While I'm most curious about what colors we've flying - so to speak - I'll not ask anyone to speak it out loud.

However, I am curious if you think you "belong," for lack of a better word.

Idle curiosity. Nothing more.

I actually crash landed in the ocean, but I was recruited by the Corsair.

I don't know, the thoughts of freedom, the ability to explore and seek out adventure? Sounds pretty good to me, so maybe that means I fit in just fine.

We are of a similar mind! I, too, feel that need to explore the new and unknown. Without reservation and limitations!

Why be limited? I mean, if I wanted to follow a bunch of rules, I'd have stayed home probably. But no one's here to tell me I can't so.

If you were home, what is it that you would do if rules did not apparently bind you?

That would never happen. The rules are the rules. Can't escape them at home.

But if for some reason it did happen - it won't - I don't know. Maybe do something normal for a change?

Implying that how you are currently living is anything but?

Like objectively? Yes, for a lot of reasons.

I see. Well I won't ask for more than that, if you do not wish to provide said reasons.

Rather, name one of those "normal" wishes instead.

I think it would be cool to have weekends off to just hang out sometimes, you know? And everyone would be available, no one would be working.

Weekends off? What might you mean by that? Can you not dictate what days you take off?

I don't set my schedule. None of us do. We get our missions assigned to us and curses don't seem to understand weekends.

Curses? As in... Profanities?

No. Like malevolent spirits.

If that is all that they are, why is it that you have taken to calling them curses?

[cursedwords]

They use cursed energy, that's why they're named that way and have been for a few thousand years as far as I know.

Cursed energy.

Might you explain a bit more how this works?

[cursedwords]

Sure. The energy that makes curses tends to feed off the negative emotions of humans.

Some select few people are born with different brain structures that allows for them to use the same energy to come up with powerful ways to combat those curses. Like a balance.

I'm one of those people.

It's a differing brain structure that gives this ability? Interesting.

Since these curses themselves are empowered by emotions, one would think that the ability to combat them would also stem from emotions.

I'm afraid not really. They're born from emotions, but they don't exactly feed on them? They become their own thing. Exam times are the worst. A lot of anxious people out there.

Tis an interesting concept, though not entirely foreign either.

That is what you do, then? Seek out the places where these creatures are formed and rid people of them?

Pretty much, yes. They get graded on how strong they are and we get dispatched based on that.

I usually work alone because I'm a high enough rank to do so.

You work alone but have homework... That would make it appear to me that you are but a student.

Depending on the age of your kind, that could mean you are quite young.

Sixteen, if you consider that young. It's my second year in this technical college that I attend to do curse exorcisms. I have two more years after this.
