[So guess who finally figured out you can hide your User ID on the network? He's been here a few months now, and with this being anonymous, he finally felt comfortable to try taking suggestions publicly.]

Does anyone here have experiences with curses and or knowledge on how to break them? Asking for a friend.

What manner of curse?

The kind that changes you into something you don't want to become.

Body. The mind still stays the same as their original form.

Who cast the curse?

No one did. They got it from falling into a spring that was cursed. Whoever fell into one of them would be cursed to take the shape of whatever drowned there centuries ago whenever they're doused with water.

Where are these springs, then? Perhaps they can be purified.

Back in China. In my world, at least. Don't know if purifying them works or if that even removes the curses.

Excluding the source of the curse makes this seem a nigh impossible task.

Though, I have seen the impossible made possible more than once.

There is little more advice I can offer without meeting this person and better understanding how this magic works.

Curses, yeah. Breaking them, no.

What sort of a curse is your friend talking about here?

The sort of curse that makes you transform into something you aren't supposed to be. Physically in this case.

Those tend to not have easy fixes. Depending on what it is, breaking it may be more of a pain in the ass than it's actually worth.

You have no idea. I've tried just nearly everything, but they either turn out to be duds, deadends, or get ruined in some form. Wouldn't surprise me if the curse had something on it in order to maintain its existence, a mini-curse or assurance that breaking it will be a pain in the ass to do.

Wouldn't be surprised. The worse the curse, the more of a hell you need to go through to get rid of it. If yours is even close to as bad as mine, you're in for a rough ride trying to find a way to break it.

Not that I'm cursed or anything. My friend is. [Smooth Ranma, smooth.] How bad's yours?

[so smooth. eizen'll be nice and make no comment though.]

Bad. I've got something called the reaper's curse. Bad luck follows me no matter where I go. If something bad can happen, it's not a question of IF it'll happen, but of how bad it ends up being.

So basically you've got a souped-up version of Murphy's Law? That is pretty bad, I guess.

It makes you change to something else, something you don't wanna be.

[You know what. That's relatable. Daqaing's eyes shifting to the side and the way his chin lifted probably said a lot more about his uncomfortable understanding of that than his choice of words actually conveyed.]

So it... effects you... physically? Or mentally as well? Does it have a trigger or is it more random?

[He paused a little seeing that he was being addressed and not his 'friend'... But after the others, might as well drop the pretense.]

It only affects my body, my mind stays the same. Cold water triggers it, hot water fixes it.

[He pulls his head back some and frowns visibly. Because that... that was way more inconvenient than having to kiss a specific person while being struck by lighting for the 'change the body' effect. The whole having to obey orders of a somewhat lazy and far too good for her own good fairy was, of course, a terrible burden that he was getting used to and didn't really inconvenience him that much since she didn't order him around that much, but to have it triggered by cold water when most of the ocean qualified as that...]

Are you on a crew or do you reduce it's risk of occurrence by staying away from the ocean?

I am on a crew, yeah. Not that it matters much, 'cuz even when I'm nowhere near it, water always finds a way to me.

[The amount of times people conveniently left water buckets out to fall or trip over is unprecedented. Probably just another aspect of the curse.]

[Likely an aspect of the curse if cold water actively found a way to this person. Curses were like that.]

There are methods of turning curses back on their casters. There are also methods of simply breaking a curse. Depending on the how it was crafted and the intention for the curse's use, it may require a specific action to be take or item to be used.

Do you know who cast it upon you?

It wasn't caused by another person, unless you wanna count my idiot of an old man socking me and getting me cursed. It was from a cursed training ground in China that had a bunch of these springs. If you took a dive in, you'd come back out looking like whatever drowned there centuries ago until you're lucky enough to find hot water.
