What is the fastest route to acquiring a ship of one's own?

As a man of the desert, I am hardly equipped to crew one by myself; however, I am not the sort to promise a position and be unable to deliver. Still, I also have an interest in those who find themselves dissatisfied with their current circumstances, searching for...more.

I for one would hardly be content chasing petty bounties when there are bigger fish in the sea.

There's a bunch of different options, far as I know. Buy one, build your own, find one shipwrecked and fix 'er up. Those are the boring options. If you're the kinda guy that lives on the edge, 'borrowing' one for an indefinite time is a good way to get a working ship already up and going.

One capable of defeating others in battle, of course.

That could fit any ship if you know what to do. Even a simple merchant ship could be fitted for battle, and provide more espionage and deception. But I'm sure plenty of pirates have a battle ship like that. With how vast this place is, you're bound to come across a ship like that at some point.

Got a plan on how to acquire or take over a ship, though? Do you know how to fight or sneak onto a ship undetected?

While I have no doubts I could capture a ship on my own, it seems I would at the very least need an assistant to sail it away. Unless you are volunteering, I have no interest in sharing further information.
