Hello.
I am in need of legal advice regarding a private matter:
Is a marriage contract legally binding if one or more parties involved were under the influence of spiritual possession while it was officiated?
Thank you for your assistance.

Why thank you! I appreciate that.
Just how aware were you while all of this was going on?

I was fully cognizant, even when the spirit was in control of my physical form. My companion's experience was the same.
[ Except for that one bit where Zelda's spirit sort of fell asleep on accident and Darin had to kiss her to wake her up... but she's keeping that little tidbit to herself. ]

[ Maybe she should just tell the story from the start. ]
The long and short of it is that my companion and I were possessed by the spirits of two former lovers who died before they were able to wed. They wished to marry before they passed on to the Farplane, but needed physical bodies in order to stand before a minister. My companion and I agreed to assist them. However, I had not considered at the time that doing so, even as proxies, might render myself and my companion legally married as well. Thus my conundrum.

So, now just bear with me on this, why did that not cross your mind immediately? I think that would have been the first question I would have asked.
Not that I would've agreed to it in the first place.

I was preoccupied at the time and failed to consider the potential complications that could arise from the arrangement. My greater concern was excising the spirit from my body.

Preoccupied. That must have been quite something to be preoccupied by.
So you were just interrupted from whatever you were doing by these two spirits?

[ And she's gonna leave the rest to Claude's imagination, because a princess doesn't kiss and tell (or at least, not in detail). Needless to say, her relationship with her companion is a lot less platonic than it was at the beginning of the masquerade. ]
More or less. My companion was the first to be possessed; the spirit was terrified of reuniting with his betrothed, as he had died before their wedding and feared she hated him. In the process of trying to encourage the spirit to face his fears, we happened upon the spirit of the betrothed, who then possessed me.

Were they possessed in the middle of doing something so distracting? Or did the spirit wait for you both to finish this "something?"
[ He's partially teasing, don't worry. But he is curious! ]

things.
[ After she was possessed, Zelda's consciousness began to fade. For whatever reason, the only thing Darin could think of to call her back was to kiss her.
Which, to his credit, worked like a charm. ]
They were considerate enough to wait until things were finished before asking our assistance to help them wed.

So then it really was without consent. Not sure how I feel about that.
Hopefully you and your friend cleared up the "things" that happened while possessed since whatever "things" happened weren't entirely done with consent either.

And Zelda is starting to get flustered from all the prodding. ]
All right, yes, you are right, he probably would not have kissed me if not for the spirit's influence! But it was not against our consent! The spirits were just giving us a push in the direction we were already headed!

...
Shit. ]

In any case, yes, my friend and I spent plenty of time working things out. Everything is all right between us.
[ No, she has no idea what she just implied there. ]

So to be told that it had been some make out session that had been interrupted. ]
Oh! Now that's scandalous.
2/3
Now I'm not sure that I would want to marry someone under those circumstances, but hey! It'll make an interesting story to tell your friends.

So are you two going to get together now or did the sparks not fly?
1/2
Thank the Goddess for anonymity. She might actually die of shame if Claude ever discovers her true identity. ]
I am still in the process of determining how "together" we are already.
2/2
Yes, there were definitely
sparks

Claude himself follows his head more than emotion, but hey! ]
Here's hoping that you two can figure it out.
Then let everyone know when the wedding will be.
