A curious question to my fellow riftfarers — to those who are capable of "summoning" or calling upon powerful beings or even people, how does it work in your world? Any particular requirements? Contracts?

And have you any luck doing so while here? Any changes you've discovered?

[This is a general broadcast type post, so anyone can threadhop if they'd like to swap stories or anything! Cid will be reading everything...with very keen interest.]

In case you're wondering what this is about, while on that ghost ship a girl somehow managed to summon me from a rock she had—materia she called it. She also knew about Ramuh and some of the other Eikons from our world.

Given there was no warning and that she might not be the only one, thought I should give everyone a heads up. For now I'll be trying some tests with her to see how it works and will share the results.

You shoulda said something earlier, old man! Besides, you might be popping up on other people if I lend this out for a very good reason.

Well, that guy [id: makoglow] can use materia. And probably the other spiky-headed guy. Then Tifa, maybe that Aerith lady. I only just met most of them!

Bit hard without knowing your ID and not wanting to put your name on blast, but I suppose I could have worded something in there.

[Well whatever, water spilled and all that.]

And you only know the name of two?

But I'm assuming they're from the same world as yours.

If you had used the word "materia" I would have been all over it.

[ Now here are all these people asking about it. ]

We were busy at the time. I didn't want to lose my head. Okay, the other spiky-head is named Zack.

[ She doesn't even know much about Red, yet. ]

Probably! I've definitely met Zack before, and saw Tifa from a distance in my world. So far, they're the only ones I've seen that are using materia.

[Well as long as the focus isn't completely on him—but oh well.]

Do you know who they can summon?

Sorry, only Ramuh was available when I talked to the kid who was offering the test.

No worries, we'll figure it out. Hopefully not the hard way.

In any case, I've wanted to try and contact you so we can figure out our little arrangement, as well as test to see how this thing works. More we know, the better.

If we're going to test it, I'll have to find a bunch of enemies or a tougher opponent. The materia has to charge up before I can activate the summon. That happens in battle.

[ So it's not like she'll be able to summon him just for anything willy-nilly. ]

[...Hmmm. That actually is a bit interesting to hear.]

I'd prefer you'd pick something that you may be able to finish off on your own, or have someone with you. One of the things I'd like to look into is the distance. Wouldn't want you to waste time trying to use it and it doesn't even work.

Which also leads to needing to discuss some arrangements about this. As unconventional as the discovery and means is, if you need my assistance I won't mind popping in. I have a Ring of Returning, so I can return back to wherever I was fairly easily. Only thing would be if I had some warning beforehand.

I could probably rope a couple of people into helping out. Both from my world, so they'll want to know how this works. They're... probably pretty strong. They seemed like it when we were on the ghost ship.

Hey, I won't always know when I'll need to summon. I can't exactly stop to call you up or text if I've got a need for Ramuh. But I won't do it for enemies I can beat. And, I won't just hand it over to someone else without telling you first.

Would be better if you didn't hand that stone over to anyone at all.

Or just hand it over to me and all problems solved.

I'm not gonna hand it over to complete strangers, and not permanently. I fought hard to get this summon!
